Star Trek, better story lines and better casting. I like all the series of Star Trek. Voyager is my favorite.

I prefer Star Trek, but let me tell you why.

I think Star Wars is fantasy...it's not about Earth or humans or the future of what happens here...it's far away and along time ago, sort of like Lord of the Rings or some other fantasy genre movie.

Star Trek, even if it's less exciting and the special effects aren't so great, it attempts to access what we are as humans. When Star Trek first came out, it showed Asian, African, Russian, even alien personnel working together as officers in the military...this was unheard of back in the 60s when it first came out. It was cheesy, but it turned heads when people saw the way diversity was present in the show.

As Star Trek progressed, it showed us one possible future of humanity, when where science, or honorm, or logic reigned, and the old competitive style of the American system wasn't there...it had been replaced with a system that finally treated all citizens equally. I think Star Trek fans are different from Star Wars because instead of just wanting to enjoy one or the other, one is confronted with ethical and moral questions from Star Trek, and each episode brings up something that makes us look at what makes us humans.

In the Star Wars movies (in which special effects eventually replaced plotline), the themes rarely get anywhere past the tried and true "good vs. evil" cliche. Star Trek tackles issues that are a bit more complicated, and for this reason has affected the way people feel and think, rather than just entertaining them for the sake of entertainment.

AS IF THERE WAS ANY QUESTION.
STAR WARS! STAR WARS IS ALWAYS BETTER! Star Trek is sooooo boring, outdated and stupid. Star Wars is the greatest story of all time!
And George Lucas is a GENIUS! George changed the way movies were made, none of the special effects you see would exist if George hadn't have tried it back in 1976.
For example, Peter Jackson would be NOTHING without the help of Lucas.
Star Wars is the greatest movie of all time.
It is the biggest movie franchise of all time, and including inflation, which is essential, it is still the HIGHEST GROSSING MOVIE OF ALL TIME. That was in 1977, and still Star Trek, LOTR or HP can't stand a CHANCE! Wake up! And all those other movie makers will admit that one of their biggest inspirations was George Lucas. There is no way around it, Star Wars has achieved more than any other movie series ever. It has the best story, best characters, best special effects and has made the most money. Star Wars is forever, nothing stands a chance. Check the resources:

I prefer Star Wars. The plot is a lot richer with philosophical subtexts as well as filled with more action, characters, etc. than Star Trek. Star Trek is a tale of scientific exploration meaning that its movies and shows have less of a climax. Star Wars on the other hand is the tale of a hero's rise to glory (Anakin), his secret love affair, and his damnation (episodes 1, 2, and 3). It also includes the tale of the birth of a new hero (Luke), the father's redemption (Vader), and the salvation of a galaxy (the fall of the Galactic empire) (episodes 4, 5, and 6).
In addition to an amazing plot, Star Wars boasts outstanding action sequences (ex. lightsaber duels, space battles, ground fighting, etc.). In comparison, Star Trek has very few scenes with any sort of climactic tension whatsoever. Star Wars also has a wider variety of technology incorpoated into its story than Star Trek. For example, Star Wars has many forms of transportation such as an X-Wing, Y-Wing, A-Wing, Millenium Falcon, R-Wing, Jedi Starfighter, and many, many others whereas Star Trek has the Enterprise and the various other enemy and friendly ships that appear briefly.
Outside the story, the Star Wars name applies itself to A LOT of things. There are Star Wars action figures, video games, movies, videos (I'm referring to the stuff on the internet), costumes, various toy props (blasters, lightsabers), models (you know, the ones you build), board games, etc. as opposed to Star Trek's movies, shows, a small number of costumes, toys, and crappy video games, and weird conventions (Star Wars has those too, but not quite as odd). Need I go on?

I've never seen any of the Star Trek movies, only a couple of episodes of "The Next Generation." Star Wars is compelling because of its association with the human spirit, not because of the space battles/lightsaber duels, etc.

Star Wars all the way

Star Wars.
I agree with what was said about more action, but I also think there is a larger variety of characters (not to mention my fave, Boba Fett). Star Wars characters also travel from world to world, but we get to see and experience more of these fanstasy worlds than we do in Star Trek. In ST, we see more of the main ship than anything else.

Star Trek
It has a longer history, better and more varied storylines, better characters. I have loved it since Sept. 8, 1966. It truly has examined the human condition and what it means to be human. Each of the series and each of the films have their own appeal.
