You my friend just made the case for PLAYOFFS in College football. SEC is tough. No teams really run away in conference games. You take a close loss or two no bowl bid for you! Other conferences have one or two teams that are dominate. USC is Pac 10, and they dominate it. Arizona State is in the same Conf. but got beat by Rutgers. The BCS is all about win-loss records. Have playoffs using the win loss differential system in Conference. That would make for better selection of the teams and a true Champion.

maybe the Big 10 isn't so scared of the SEC because head to head in bowl games last year, the Big 10 won two out of the three matchups against the SEC. Penn State beat bigbad Tennessee, and Wisconsin beat SEC Championship game runner up Arkansas.
SEC went 1-2 against the Big 10 in bowls, why should the Big 10 tremble at the SEC's feet? Over the past 10 years, there have been three SEC National Champions, three Big 12 national champions, two from the Pac 10, two from the Big 10, one from the ACC, and one from the Big East (Miami was not a member of the ACC yet when they won in 2001). The SEC hasn't dominated anything. I would say that the conference situations of the past national champions shows that there is indeed more balance in college football than the SEC will ever admit. Ask an SEC fan, and they will say the SEC is by far the best conference thats ever played football...so why aren't they any more dominant at winning national championships than anyone else?
If you want to go all time, if the SEC is so dominant, why does the SEC only have two teams in the top 10 winningest programs in the NCAA, (not one higher than 5) while the Big 10 has 3, including the #1 spot?

OK lets see the NCAA is not a football conference it the organization that rules over all of college athletics. I agree Auburn got ripped off in the 2004 season when the BCS put Oklahoma in the bcs championship game vs USC. You can not live in the past, Let it go, no matter how bitter you stay they will never change the outcome of that selection. I do feel the $EC is the best overall football conference in the country. I would just like to see more $EC teams play big 10 and PAC 10 schools away from home. Georgia hasn't played north of the mason Dixon line since 1965. Hello what up with that. College football needs a playoff not a plus one game. Get ride of Ball State vs Michigan and Fla. International vs LSU and crap games like that, Evey team should have to play at least 9 league games a year, then 3 non conference games then a 16 game playoff. If they feel its too many games then get rid of two of the non conference games and start the playoff earlier. I feel the PAC 10 is the only other conference that can possible match up athlete to athlete to the $EC

I will ignore the improper puncuation, the idea fragment for a question, and the fact that you say your name is Sam Oatis but your profile name is Pamela O, and just get right to answering...
1. Since when has the SEC been regarded as a weak conference?
2. Last season, the big 10 conference as a whole went 3-1 against the SEC
3. The Big East as a conference went 1-0 to the SEC
4. The Big 12 broke even going 2-2 against the SEC, however one of those losses was Colorado's (who went 2-10 on the season) one point loss to Georgia.
5. It has been 11 years since a Heismann Trophy winner came out of the SEC(1996 Danny Weurffel). Before that winner it was 22 years (1985 Bo Jackson)
6. I don't recall Arizona State of Miami being considered powerhouses in 2005, so win those wins aren't really that impressive. (also virginia tech's 8 game winning streak? is that really even worth noting in college football? 8 games isn't exactly one for the record books)
7. Thourgh this whole thing I don't understand why the NCAA would be "scared" of the SEC. I'm pretty sure that if more educated residents of louisana such as yourself, are watching the SEC, that means more money for the NCAA, seeing as how the SEC is part of the NCAA.
EDIT: 6/7 Also you can quit crying about espn giving them no credit, because if you watched sportscenter today all they did was talk about SEC football.

The SEC is the dominant force in college football and has been since the 1920s (check out cfdatawarehous). Football is a religion in the south and this leads to the best pool of talent in the country. This year the SEC had 7 of the top 10 in recruiting. That said I don't believe any conference or team for that matter is scared of another. Hey David V Big 10 may have 3 of top 10 (if u count Penn St who was an independent for 95% of their wins) and SEC only 2 but SEC has 5 of top 20 in all time win %. As far as national championships the SEC has won more National Championships (21) since it was formed in 1933 than any other conference. The big 10 was second with 17 (most of those from the 30s & 40s).

I'm tired of hearing about how the Big 10 or the Pac 10 has won more championships than the SEC in the last 10 or 20 years. That is the point of this discussion,if Auburn,LSU,or Florida was not in the SEC you would have had 3 12-0 teams last year.Matter of fact LSU wouldn't have lost in at least 3 or 4 years. The whole conference is full of teams that are very good teams.Georgia in2005 are the only SEC champs to lose their Bowl in a while.

As a SEC fan, who lived in the upper mid west, from top to bottom the SEC is the best Con. but teams at the top of other Con. arent' behind them. The ACC top(until last year) with FSU and Maimi often is much better. the big 10 top teams are just as good.
The SEC has big problems against other Con top teams.
They have too many teams, it is by far the biggest Con. and up til last year you only played 2 or 3 teams not from the con. This has two problems in and of it self. Almost all the teams play the same ground it out and Def football, and often don't have the speed with top teams in other con. so when they play a fast team like FSU or USCali they haven't had the experience in the D back field, and often make mistakes, and then they beat the crap out of each other. (I mean like a fist fight)
USC and others don't have 8 hard games, maybe 4 tough teams, so younger players (2nd and 3rd string) who ride the bench often get to play in blow outs against teams which helps in other games, Look at Georgia shcld, ever year in Oct and Nov the play TN, Fla, and Auburn in 4 or 5 weeks. Your best squad has to play, pretty much the whole game and 2nd and 3rd get little time on the field.
They also keep knocking it other off, Tn beats Fla, Georgia beats TN, Fla beats Georgia in the east, and the same kinda thing in the west with Alabama, Auburn and LSU. and then the team with one loss goes to the SEC champ game plays the other and one falls, and the winner goes to the BCS and doesn't know how to play with the fast teams but other then Fla (who plays hard and fast because they have FSU every year) often gets a less game then the champship game.
We need a play off.

Ok buddie you are correct in stating that from top to bottom the SEC is the most dominate conference. But lets not forget USC whipped the hell out of Arkansas which i think beat Auburn and Tennnessee, Speaking of which Tennessee lost to the 4th best team in the big-ten Pen State which really man-handled the vols.. the score does it no justice. and Arkansas got beat by wisconsin which by any means was a slightly above average team. Now i seriously take offense to ragging on my sun devils because as i re-call the tigers were a top 5 team in 05' the devils were i believe 19 and if it werent for a few Sam Keller picks and a blocked field goal ran back for touchdown my devils would have shocked the world and by the way My devils were not even close to being in the same league as USC that year. Now as i stated the SEC is bar-none the best conference but please dont forget that alot of the games you mentioned like Miami who are obviously on the down-swing after a few title runs was not anything to brag about, and YES!! USC would have whooped Auburn like they did Oklahoma as well no doubt about it. Notre dame had no secondary and we know all about Russell his rocket arm and he had two first round wideouts to throw to not to mention Early Doucet. The Pac-10 will be on the up and up next year many veteran teams while the SEC really has lost alot of players not to mention the flag ship program Gators lost more than half the starters on both sides. And also the 8 game win streak you speak of was against MARCUS vick not mike, that tech. team had ZERO offense just a really solid d everyone saw that one coming. AND TO JASON T THE SUN DEVILS ACTUALLY BEAT RUTGERS DO YOUR RESEARCH!!

Of course, they're all scared of the SEC! Big 10 usually has 1 really good team, and maybe 2 pretty good teams. Pac 10 has one good team if USC shows up. ACC can have 2 or 3 good teams but usually not ones that are good year after year! They're all just second class conferences to the SEC though! Usually the third best team in SEC can compete with the best of the rest! The NCAA is not afraid of SEC though! The NCAA is hopeful that they can have at least 1 or 2 teams that can compete with the SEC Champ! Oh yeah, WAR EAGLE!!!!!!

I've never heard any of those conferences except the Big 10 talked about as a dominant conference. Even on ESPN the SEC is widely known as a dominant conference.
