Yes, our federal government should pass a law outlawing global warming! I can just hear it now, "We hereby declare that the sun should stop shining and giving off warmth."
The penalty for noncompliance would be a billion years in prison for old Sol, if we can get it into one.
And as a side affect, we'll also save Mars. Did you know that it's ice caps are melting. That darn old meanie Sun!!!!!

In the 1970s, they were convinced that we were heading for an ice age. Now, they are convinced that we are facing global warming.
The truth is, the climate does go through natural swings. We have only been recording temperatures accurately for a relatively short time.
Yes, some of the pollution we create does harm the environment but it is not as extreme as you are being led to believe.
(PS: have you stopped driving your polluting car? Do you recycle every possible thing you can? Just what type of laws would you like them to pass?? The global warming crew is trying to shut down coal plants but the environmentalists won't let us build cleaner and more efficient nuclear energy plants. We have to have power from somewhere realistic. This is just one example of a deadlock that is being faced on this issue. )
Edit:
They can NOT legislate the price of gas. Please take an economics course and learn about supply and demand. Low supply + high demand = price increase. Add stockholders to the mix and that distorts the picture even more. The government can not fix the prices on gasoline when the wholesale price is set on the worldwide market. If the oil companies were forced to purchase at a higher price than they could sell it for, they just wouldn't. Then we would REALLY have a gas shortage.
There is absolutely no way to legislate the amount of time a person drives in a day. Personally, I refuse to drive more than 20 minutes for a job and live in an area where there are plenty of jobs in my field. However, some of the people I work with live out of the city and drive an hour or more each way to work. Carpooling or public transportation is not an option when they live so far out there and no, they are not interested in moving.
Nice ideas but not feasible which is why this is such a tough issue.

Because there aint much that can be done. Yes the planet is becoming overcrowed. Its like tring to fit a half gallon of water in a quart jar. We're overflowing, and its all gonna end someday. The U.S. pays MAJOR BUCKS to most every country in the world, and those same countries (china for one) aren't doing anything, why shoul we ?

The government can't control nature. In a free market prices are determined by supply and demand so gas prices are right where they should be in this market EXCEPT that gallon of gas is so heavily taxed by the government we pay more.

you guys can't deny global warming. it has increased tremendously over the past few years. and bush keeps denying it. odd considering he passed a polar bear/endangered specie law recently. The reason polar bears are endangered is cuz there habitat is decreasing greatly...due to global warming. which doesn't click with the pres.
