I want to donate my umbilical cord?

But the military doc says I have to get the kit myself. Let me be clear... I want to *donate* it, not store it for a "what if" scenerio... anyone have any ideas? How do I get the kit in Japan?

First of all, don't pay attention to the people who are telling you it's "sick" or "disgusting" .... this is a very helpful thing to people who's babies are born with problems, or for your own baby, whichever you decide! But, unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anything on it either. Try to bug the military doc about it more (for more info). I know you can donate the blood ... but I'd love to know what you find out, I'm pregnant too, and would love to donate! Take care (and thanks for serving our country (or your husband for doing so)).

I wanted to do that also with my children. I was told that the only way that you can donate it is if you know the person that the cord blood is going to. There isn't any organizations that I know of (haven't been able to find any myself) that accepts donated cord blood from anybody. They just want you to store it for your own personal use. Good luck. If you find one... let me know. I'm 29 weeks ;)

you can find collection kits online, but it will likely cost you $, and I don't know if there are different laws for blood collection if Japan. An american blood bank will likely not want you to colect it and ship it back to the us, it would take too long.

that's very nice of you. it seems odd to me that to donate your umbilical cord you have to purchase the kit yourself...look it on the internet.
