Apparently, there are those who would like Vermont to seceed from the union. Is this a bad idea? Would it not be useful to have the Democrats divide the country into two equal sections and then let the Republicans pick the section they want? No more bickering. Each side gets the representation they want. Demsocrats need not suffer the ignominy of a George W. Bush and Republicans need not endure the likes of Bill Clinton. Everyone wins.

One query was to the legality, or Constitutionality of the proposal. There is no prohibition of secession in the Constitution.

Someone points out the phrase "Divide and Conquer." I would submit that it is not an enemy that divides us. It is, instead, ourselves.

Someone complained about secession being objectionable because it is proferred in response to not getting one's way. However, the country itself was founded on the very principles of secession. The US, in effect, seceeded from Britain. Does this not intimate that it is acceptable?

Why just go give up the Union of America that so many brave soldiers have fought for, have died for. There is no reason why Dems and Reps can work as one to return us to the america we once were... sad thing is i see very few that are willing to sacrafice due to the stubborness and the money involved in fighting each other over issues such as the war, immigration, so on and so forth. We as voters need to let our voices be heard and not vote for popularity like so many people are, but vote for the person that you truely in your heart will make a difference for not only you, but your neighbors, your state, and your country. People seem to think that they have to vote for the most popular canidate so their party can beat the other party, instead of looking at what the canidate can do for you.
Look at the polls now... Obama and Clinton are leading the polls right now, on a campaign of nothing but president bashing. When, in my heart, the best democrat for the job is Richardson, with his experience.
On the republican side its Rudy, who is by far the worst choice for the canidacy in my opinion, but he is leading because everyone in the country knows his name. I am happy to see the man who stands most for what i believe in is gaining and in some polls even leading, Mitt Romney.
It's all your choice who you vote for, but in the end it has to be somebody who stands for you, and not for popluarity. if this is resolved, then we can stand unified as one country again.

No, because this isn't what the democrats want. Its what the socialists in my party want since they used it to push their own agenda. I am a democrat and patriot. I am NOT a socialist.
They want this country divided and destroyed.
When I see republicans, I assume they are patriots, not "the enemy". My experience is that most of them see me the same way. We disagree, but the country comes first.
That is NOT true of socialists and the seditious.
They don't represent me, period.
How about it, democrats? Do thes people represent you? Is that your idea of patriotism? Is destroying this country at the root of what you believe? Or are you going to stop letting socialists and seditious people represent you?
No one wins with this idea except our enemies.

I'm tired of people talking about secession just because they didn't get their way. That's the same reason the South seceded from the Union. Lincoln won and South Carolina threw a major hissy fit.

The Civil War settled that question. The Supremem Court won't allow it.
If we divided the country, the Democrats would all be dead in 1 generation. Democrats tend to be either incredibly wealthy or dirt poor and really lazy. The wealthy dems don't know how to work and the poor Dems don't want to. All would die.
If they didn't die on their own, the Republican nation would just declare war on the Democrat nation - wiping them all out and taking the entire country for themselves.
So when you say "Everyone wins." - you mean "The Republicans Win", right?

It's called Divide and Conquer, and the Islam world is laughing right now.
EDIT:
That's right it is ourselves, and that makes it worse. It is also over what is going on in the country, and one of the biggest, if not biggest, is the war and our divided take on it. They themselves did not divide us physically, as in battle, but in spirit as to we do not stand together as one Great Nation.

This question is almost an insult to the founding fathers and President Lincoln. It's a good thing that all of the states of the Union fight daily to be sure you can ask/say such things freely.
