Sources of confusion from that question come primarily from:
1. Which God - There have been at least 500 major "versions" of a supreme God in major civilizations in human history. In fact, the fact that you capitalized God (referring to a specific entity) instead of lower case as it should be when referring to "a" god shows continued misconception.
2. If referring to the biblical God, are you referring to literal or philosophical translation.
3. The question confuses whether you are looking for emperical proof of God, or asking whether one believes in God via faith.
4. This question keeps getting asked in the philosophy question, when it should be in the religion section. Theists don't deal well with most philosopher's treatment of religion.
5. No meeting of the minds between reader and asker that "God" is defined as a. our creator, b. cares about human existance, c. governs an afterlife d. was embodied as a human e. grants selfish human wishes via prayer or e. Is an infinite body

You wouldn't even ask that question, if you did not believe in a higher power. I believe you are on the verge of over-coming your own misconceptions that you have been exposed to! Answer your own question...truthfully...is there a God?
I assure you I know there is one, but you must feel it yourself! Only you can determine that...Inside of you!

The assumption that because one believes something to be true, it is... A further impediment is a superior attitude anchored in the belief that one is 'a chosen one' and everyone else is, somehow, flawed...

It is a question that can not be replied with a definitive answer. Only an assumption.
