you mean when can the baby hear while he is still in the womb? That is at around 24-27 weeks. Outside the womb is after his born.

Yes... although it's kind of a 'fuzzy' time-period. Research shows the baby can't hear unitl about 16-20 weeks, but I said yes to this because I'd go ahead and assume that the baby can now. Because either way, it'll be able to hear you within a few weeks if not now anyway.
The earlier you start interacting with your baby (like reading and singing to it), the better for the baby and you. Enjoy your pregnancy and take care of yourself! :-)

yes...i remember watching a movie in health class a while back and doctors put a mini mini camera up you know where ;) and a recorder too. it was really interesting because you can make out what the mom is saying to her baby from the baby's perspective! of course, the baby couldn't understand it but it could definately be heard. also...that's how a baby "knows" it's mother and has such a special relationship with her...through her talking to it!

I read it was around 20 weeks that their ears start to become functional, but not until something like 26 weeks that they can actually make out any real noises outside the womb.

Yes the baby can hear you some time in your second trimester. The baby also hears your heartbeat. Studies show that babies that are read to in the womb are smarter than ones that aren't read to.

Who cares? No I am not trying to be mean here!! It will hear you at some point so get used to it now. Plus I'm sure it can feel you even more so when you talk/sing/hum even if it can't actually hear your voice it will feel you. And it will help you feel more calm and relaxed and the baby can definitely sense that since studies are starting to show that our stress levels good and bad are directly sent to the baby through our chemical balances that pass through the placenta.
I've been humming to my little guy for months now, and talking to him and if I hum while he is bouncing around, he actually will calm down for a bit. At around 5 months I knew he could hear since he was reacting to the music playing at a dance we were at. Any form of communication with the baby while it's in your tummy is good, whether it's auditory or just rubbing your belly.
Congratulations!!!
