I've become a big fan of Sonya Hartnett's books. She's usually classified as a YA author but her books can be enjoyed by adults as well. I like how she doesn't always give her books the "happy ever after" endings that a lot of books seem to have. Her books are gritty, realistic and her characters stay with you a long time. Some of her titles:
Sleeping Dogs
Surrender
What the Birds See
Wilful Blue
Thursday's Child
All of the above are good but my fave is Sleeping Dogs. It's about a family (mother, father, five children) who run a caravan (trailer) park in rural Australia. An artist comes to stay at their park and finds the family interesting and mysterious. He sets out to discover their secret and does so, to a devastating conclusion. I highly recommend it.
Good luck and happy reading! :-)

The Vampire Lestat - Anne Rice
The Dark Elf Trilogy - R.A. Salvatore
Dragonlance Chronicles Trilogy and Dragonlance Legends Trilogy by Weiss and Hickman
The Belgariad, The Mallorean, and 3 prequel novels by David and Leigh Eddings
The Fraternity of The Stone - David Morrel
Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card
IT and The Stand and also The Eyes of The Dragon by Stephen King - I'd love to suggest the Gunslinger series by King, but the cop out ending/closure reeked in my opinion.
Earth's Children Series by Jean M Auel
Thats a few anyway...

Go to Amazon.com and search:
"Lost from Atlantis Book 1"
"Death by Murder David Lindsay" - you have to search that way.
and "Super Spaghetti"
They're free if you have Kindle Unlimited, and you can get a free trial of that - Google how.
If you don't have a Kindle you can get a free smartphone app from Google Play, or read it online - all free.
