What are your experiences with positives and negatives. I REALLY want to quit, and so far nicotine replacement has not helped (in the past) Is this the magic pill everyone claims?

I took 60 days worth of Chantix over a 3 month period.

Cons: Upset stomach (whenever I took the medicine or during week 1 whenever I'd smoke), weird/vivid dreams, and trouble sleeping (this went away after the first 2 weeks or so).

Pros: You quit smoking.

Chantix is great for helping with the physical cravings. It turned me off physically to smoking which was great. You do still need will power to overcome the behavioral desire to smoke. I had problems being in restaurants and bars during the first month or so after I quit because it was just way too tempting. After that, all went well.

Now being around smoke bothers me. I guess I'm slowly becoming that evil ex-smoker that the smokers hate!

Chantix is a relatively new drug in health care that, in my opinion, has been very helpful to many differnt patients.
The Great/Intresting thing about Chantix is the way that is works. It Actually DOES NOT contain nicotine.
There are receptors for nicotine in the brain. When smoke is inhaled, nicotine attaches to these receptors. This sends a message to a different part of the brain to release a chemical called dopamine. Dopamine gives a feeling of pleasure. But it only lasts for a short time. The body wants to repeat this feeling. Based on research, it is believed that Chantix works by activating these receptors and blocking nicotine from attaching to them. However, Chantix does not contain nicotine.

Some other Helpful Advice
Most people will keep taking Chantix for up to 12 weeks. So dont get discouraged! Good Luck!

My friend used it to stop smoking, and it actually worked really well. Plus the way you use it doesn't shock your body by just stopping the intake of nicotine, it gradually occurs. It worked for her, she said every time she went for a cigarette it would make her really nauseous.
