Existentialism is basically the philosophy that you are the one ultimately responsible for all the choices you make in life. No more blaming society, or your parents, or the mean old man down the street. Sometimes it is very difficult to live with the choices you've made, but blaming others for your choices is an avoidance of your own moral responsibility. Existentialism is not popular because it is not easy to live with the consequences of bad choices.

Existentialism asserts that the very fact that you exist is more significant than any other meaning one can try to find in life. And, each person ultimately has to figure out what life is all about. Also the concept of having been thrown into existence without your own prior consent causes each person to question how they will approach life.
