it's from my mom for my birthday, and I have no bank account.

First, you need some sort of bank account! Use this check to open an account somewhere. As you have a birthday every year, assuming she sends you a check again you will need it at least once per year :-)

If you don't want an account, try a corner store at the gas station. They'll charge you a percentage of the check, but at least you can use the rest of it. Typical charges should be between 3-10% depending on the store's policy and the amount of the check.

Well that is a touchy subject. You have to open an account in order to cash it or deposit it. Banks won't cash it unless you have an account.You can try to get a good friend to help you but you will have to be with them when they go to there bank, and have your id with you.

I have often gotten out of state checks cashed at grocery stores. Ask if you can use the check somewhere that you want to buy something. The dry cleaner or baker may be willing to take your check if you spend money with them.

a check cashing place such as national check cashers. they do charge a fee, but it is only like 3 to 5%.
