My husband and I are thinking of maybe moving to Nevada because my brother and parents are there.

My husband is concerned about the casinos. I would like to live as close to the Vegas area as possible because that is where my brother and parents are.

My husband said he would like to be at least 45 minutes to an hour away from the casinos.

He doesn't care if the grocery stores etc. have slot machines. He just doesn't want to live close to a major casino.

I have been told that there is no city in Nevada that is that far from a casino.

I have been lead to believe that there is a casino within 15-30 minutes from just about every town in Nevada.

My husband used to have a gambling problem and doesn't want to be tempted by having a huge casino in our backyard.

Grocery stores slots or whatever are fine, but he is concerned about the casinos.

If you can suggest a city that is far from a casino, but still within a few hours from my family in Vegas that would be great.

boulder city would probably be ur best bet..b/c there is no casino out there...its only like 30 min. away from las vegas as well..so maybe yea...think about other places by..las vegas are parhump, mesquite, tonopah, and laughlin..those all have casinos, but nothing like vegas,,u might want to check out tonopah. or some small town, like that, cuz mesquite, parhump, and laughlin all are getting bigger and they have resorts as is..so boulder city most likely ur choice..its a small quite tranquil town..the closest casino..is hacienda..which is on its way to hoover dam..i would say 15 min. away from boulder city..

Unfortunately this is Las Vegas, You can't simply move here to avoid anytype of gambling. There are slot machines everywhere. lol
I live in the farthest North/West corner of town, across the street from my complex is nothing but desert and the nearest casino is about 10 minutes away.
If your husband had a gambling problem and is worried about temptation, Nevada is the wrong place to move to. It's good that he over came his gambling problem, If anything it would make him stronger, if he can overcome the gambling especially living in Las Vegas. Yes there are casinos scattered all over Las Vegas, and also the outside cities have casinos also. If you decide to move here the best thing to do is avoid the casinos. I live in Las Vegas and I avoid the strip and downtown like the plague, I only go there when and if I really need to.
Good Luck with your decision.

As a local of the Las Vegas area, I can say that Boulder City is the best small town in CLark County. It is right out side of Henderson (which has a bad reputation of being White Trash) and B.C. is clean too. It has all the charms of a small town.
The problem I have with Boulder City is that housing is pretty expensive. Other than that it is perfect for you. There are no casinos, its right near Lake Meade, the people are friendly and it is near Henderson and Las Vegas so you can get anything you need that is not in Boulder City there.
Good Luck

Boulder City is the only town in Nevada to have no casinos. It is a non-gambling town because, while Hoover Dam was being built, it was owned by the Federal government. However, it is snotty, uppity, exclusive town where many people are glad to get away from. It is about 45 minutes away from LV, and maybe you can break the mold and fit right in there. Many people in Nevada have gambling addictions. It is so very, very sad.

the outskirts of town are where alot of people live. they are away from the casinos except for the local casinos. In southern nevada, there are casino's in almost every town. I moved out here with a gambling problem, but don't really gamble that much anymore. once it is available everyday, it looses the glamour it once had. But i guess it depends on the person..

Vegas is way more than The Strip with an average city away from the tourist areas. Vegas is way bigger than Reno, which is a small town. Reno has four seasons but gets snow. While Vegas seldom gets snow but has very hot summers (usually no school). I am spoiled after living in Vegas for decades but have visited Reno multiple times. I have chosen NOT to live in Reno because of the snow.

Might look at St. George, Utah . . but it's only a little over a 1/2 hour drive to the Mesquite, Nevada casinos. Central Utah might be better, but truthfully "an addict ALWAYS finds a way"!

Boulder Coty is it and they still have like 2 close by. DO NOT move here if he has had a gambling problem. That's like taking a pothead to Amsterdam and forbiding him to smoke. You'll regret it. There are so many other places to live that why risk your livelyhood that way.

Summerlin, although it is near Red Rock. Summerlin, has many gated communitys and is close to book stores, grocery stores, and top rated schools. Red Rock, is mostly non smoking, and has a bowling alley and a movie theater
