Looking to buy a 3.5 tonne central air unit. Wondering If I should buy Goodman or Lennox? Lennox is $1200 more expensive. Please let me know your experience/opinion with the Goodman unit.

Go with the Goodman, its a lot cheaper and it can still do the job. I have a Goodman system myself-A/C and Heat. I havent had a problem. The parts are very commo and easy to get, they are easy to install and of course the initial investment is a lot less.
I've installed Goodmans, i've serviced Goodmans, i've replaced Goodmans. Lennox has a pretty cabinet and a "ooh ahh" factor to it-big deal. Funny thing is, i used to work for a Lennox retailer.

Goodman is a low-end carrier family unit. It will get the job done, cost a little more to operate and be inexpensive to repair when it will need repairs.
Lennox will cost more, have more bells-n-whistles, cost more to repair, but cost less to operate.
If you are living in the home for the next 7 years, go with the Lennox. If you are selling within 2 years, get the Goodman.
When comparing units, check the SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) to get an idea of how much it will cost to run. The Goodman will most likely be a 13, the Lennox may be a 16 or higher.
