Try using CLR or Lime-Away. I also use Scrub Free, but you will have to scrub if it's a heavy build-up. For the first two, make sure your bathroom is ventilated as these products give off a strong odor.

The cheapest, and safest method I have found is to use baking soda a lemon. Sprinkle the baking soda all over the tub. Slice a lemon in half. Use the lemon to scrub. Not only do you not need a sponge, but the lemon works as a cleaner. It's acidity will remove the soap scum. The baking soda works as a mild abrasive. When the soap scum is off, rinse the area with water to remove any residue.

Here's a scrub free no mess- solution and it will also freshen your drains... Fill your tub with the hottest water you can and pour in about 1 to 2 cups straight bleach and let it sit for an hour or so while you do other housework or even overnight. Drain and look at the shine! I also put bleach into the toilet and let sit overnight....Just remember to flush it before you use it the next day

Kaboom works good. Everytime after you use your tub or shower you need to spray it with Arm & Hammer Clean Shower . It prevents soap scum & mildew. It works great if you make sure you use it everyday. Who ever is the last person to use the shower in the morning can spray it and same at nightime.

I have a remodeling and make ready company and we have very hard water here. Try using the original CLR liquid that you can now buy at Home Depots, Lowes, Walmarts. Let it stay on the area for at least 10 minutes. For brass, chrome, or specialty surfaces use the CLR with 3 cups water to1 capful of CLR but don't let it stay on. Wipe off after you spray. Rinse with cool water, and wear gloves.
