The best book I read was an old one called The Thornbirds, About a young man becoming a priest, and working his way up the ladder to be a cardinal and next step the pope, but fell in love and had an affair during this time. A must read book and the movie was great also.

Yankee Girl by Mary Ann Rodman is the best book ever !!!!!!
Its about two girls from the 1960's in Jackson, Louisiana during the civil rights movement. Valerie is African- American and Alice is White. Alice doesn't care about what race you are when everyone else is. Her dad works in the FBI, so they have to move all the time and every there calls her " Yankee Girl" because she's from Chigago, so she knows how Valerie feels. During the book, her and Valerie go though ups and downs and something really shocking happens, but not to Valerie or Alice, just someone they know. Anyway, it's a really great story. You will find it in the children's section. Even though it's a kid's story, it's a really great book and I encourge you to read it sometime !!!

I am the Messenger, by Markus Zusak. It's about this nineteen-year-old guy who starts getting these aces in the mail - on the first one is three addresses of people he needs to do something for. Each ace has clues to how he can help certain people. it's really cool, not only because the plot is really interesting, but because of the major changes that take place in the main character's life and thoughts. It's pretty funny, too.

A Suitable Boy by Vikran Seth. A number of interconnected plots set in India shortly after the separation from it of Pakistan. The central plot is the pursuit of a marriage age girl in that traditional society for love, and her mother's pursuit for her of a suitable husband. Gives you a vivid picture of the culture and the development of India generally. Not usually the kind of thing I am into, but blew me away. Be forewarned, it is very long, but you'll love every last page.
