Why don't we get most of our electricity from batteries? I think because it's harmful to the enviornment! Am I on the right track? Anything to do with the cost or production time of producing batteries? (I'm 11 btw) thanks for any help!

Basically, because energy is required to make batteries store, hence dispense, energy. Batteries do not produce energy/electricity. Which makes them a convenient, portable electrical source but need recharging or replacement. Battery manufacturing uses methods, chemicals and metals that severly pollute the earth; another negative.
Energy used from the source (producer) is most efficient. Turbines; at the dam with rushing water, run by steam or oil and or coal burning engines, nuclear power, solar panels. In other words the electricity that powers your house or school. This electricity is also used to recharge some types of batteries.
Except for solar, these energy production methods also pollute the earth but not as much (in proportion to the energy given) as when making batteries.

You might be on the right track.........the logic is we would have landfills full of the batteries that produce more contamination than the world could handle. Unless of course the batteries could be solar powered in which case that would require someone to stay at home all day and charge up batteries. then if the sun didn't come out you are stuck.

It would be quite costly to get out electricity from batteries. There would not be much juice in batteries to run enough electricity for the home. Plus the batteries have to be dispossed of properly. and there would be alot of them laying around. Children could get a hold of them and get acid burn and sick. Not a good idea.
