Advanced in physics and chemistry remade the the economy and created the industry that has changed our life starting in the mid 19th century. The discovery that germs cause disease, vaccinations and antibiotics meant that most people would survive to be productive adults. Advances in biology meant that we could improve food production, so the increase in population did not result in mass starvation.

The greatest achievement is modern medicine. Without it, people would still be dying at 30 years old, and the child mortality rate would be about 10%. Without a long, healthy life...all other achievements wouldn't have happened.
