Do people hate "spoiled" people due to jealousy, or is it something else?

Oh the spoiling this is very touchy, huh? I think spoiling a child in terms of giving the kids too much, never making them work for anything, and always giving them what they want is a bad way to go. It sets them up to think that no matter what they want someone is going to hand it to them. They end up with a sense of entitlement if you're not careful. BUT...giving a child a great deal of your time and affection in order for them to feel secure is a good thing. I don't think of that as spoiling them. If anyone ever called me spoiled I'd laugh at them, that's far from the truth.

there's nothing wrong with being spoiled. some people are jealous, some get mad when you brag about everything you have or can do. sometimes, when someone is spoiled, they think they are better than everyone else and they won't hang out with regular kids

There is nothing wrong with being spoiled. Its when the person being spoiled brags about what they have and feels they are entitled to or deserves everything.

There's a difference between being 'spoiled' and being 'privileged.' To be spoiled it to be rotton, or to go BAD-- to think not only that you deserve the things that are given to you, but expect them. You don't learn to value your possessions, and take them for granted. You look down on people who are not AS privileged. As a child, it's your parents fault. As an adult, it's your responsibility to change your rotton attitude towards material things.
Plenty of people are jealous of those who have more, but most will dislike you for your lack of compassion and actions of superiority.

Spoiled people can become selfish people, I've seen it firsthand. THAT is why it's wrong to spoil someone too much, thus the use of the word itself...spoiled...

Some people are proud of being called a spoiled brat.
I guess with family, you don't feel as guilty if they give you stuff as much as you would feel guilty with people outside your family.

it's not jealousy, it's because spoiled people behave badly. They are not nice, considerate or polite. They are usually very selfish & self centered egotists.

It's not that people hate those that are spoiled....it's that people hate those spoiled brats that take EVERYTHING for granted! You should be grateful he's buying you a damn BMW!
