In my riders education class I rode a cruiser, but I really like sport bikes. Which do you think is best?

Depends on your personal style; personal comfort zone; body type; riding style; how fast you plan on riding; whether you plan on traveling any significant distances versus whether you plan on getting into racing; and most importantly, what you feel safest riding. Sport bikes are lighter and more manueverable, but cruisers are bigger, more comfortable for long distances, and more visible on the road.

One of my best buds rides a BMW K1200RS. He claims it's a "sport tourer", but I think it's just a really big sport bike. It's got mega power and it torques like a bastard. Gorgeous machine! Look it up online or find a dealership that sells BMW motorcycles. BMW sells some interesting stuff that you might like. The Harley V-Rod series is pretty cool too.

I like the look of a cruiser but I have a harder time maneuvering a cruiser than a sport bike. Being a motocross racer for many years it goes against everything I've ever learned to sit back on a bike the way you do on a cruiser. I ride a friends from time to time and I enjoy it but it just doesn't feel quite right to me. Since you are a beginner, I assume, just don't go for something that is crazy fast or uncomfortable to ride. The good thing about most cruisers is that they are V-Twins which provide a good torquey engine that is great for new riders. Take a look at something like a Suzuki SV650. It has sort of a sport bike look but is a V-Twin. The KTM 990 Super Duke is on my radar right now. It is more of a sport bike than the SV but is also a V-Twin.

There's no best about it - only personal preference. But there is suitability and that's what you should consider.

It's best for a newbie to start with a street bike. They're more forgiving than sportbikes and you're less likely to get into speedy trouble.

Cut your teeth on one of those for a couple of seasons, then go for the sport bike. The more time you have under your belt, the bigger you can go with a first sportbike.

I road a street bike for about 7 years before getting a sportbike so I was able to get a ZX6R - a bike that would be rather much for someone just starting out.

The problem is that sportbikes are more intuitive - sloppy riding will get you in trouble. And then there's the speed factor - it's so tempting to get on it!

If you absolutely must start with a sportbike, go for the 250 or 500, or even (if you absolutely must), the 650. These are all Kawasaki's. The 650 might be a bit much but if you behave you'd probably be just fine.

both type of bikes will go fast. in the case of rockets, they are capable of crankin up so much speed that, if u even twitch wrong, the bike will interpret it as a rider command....and it could dump u on the ground in the blink of an eye.

cruisers will go fast, but they wont wind up speed as fast as rockets. in either case, if u go down at legal freeway speeds without full leathers, u will find out the hard way why sane riders wear leather. btw, road rash that becomes infected can become life threatening.

Comparing sport bikes and cruisers is like comparing apples and oranges. Ultimately, it is you who must pay for the bike and ride it. Do not let others make this decision for you.

As one answerer mentioned, there is no BEST. You must determine what type of riding you will be doing and select what is BEST for your purposes.

Sportbikes are generally uncomfortable for long cross-country rides.

And cruisers cant beat the thrill of a sportbike on twisties. You can also stunt a sportbike...which is fun (not on public roads though).

Sportbikes are lighter and have a quicker response.

I am personally partial to sportbikes, but I don't go on long journeys either. But you can kill yourself a lot easier on a sportbike because it is so tempting to push the limits.

Might want to look into some standard/sport-touring bikes. Comfortable on a long ride and still fun in the twistys.

I ride a naked sports bike. It has a more upright sitting position than a sports bike so it is more comfortable. Its handling rivals a sports bike with lower insurance and a lower initial cost

the one I get to first!!! But really, it depends on how you're going to ride-cruisers are more comfortable on a long haul; sport bikes can wear you down over a couple hundred miles, but are generally more nimble (and FUN) on short hauls.

there is no best here. if you like to go fast then get a crotch rocket but if you want to be comfortable and just cruise arround then get a cruiser. if you really look arround you you may find a cruiser that can go as fast as a crotch rocket. check out the 1800cc+ engines that some of this companies have to offer.
