I can go onto Megan's Law. com and look up all the pervs in my neighborhood, but to knock on their door and tell them how disgusting I think they are is against the law.

They've gotten away with their crimes. They stole an child's innocence and I don't see why they should be shielded from the public. Most of the are repeat offenders who will never learn.

Why do child molestors and rapists get more sympathy and help from than their victims?

I can't disagree with you. I think that child molestation should be eligible for the death penalty. All the mental health professionals in the world already KNOW that these freaks can't be rehabilitated, but yet they let them go. I say either execute them or let them rot in jail for the rest of their lives.

Skip:

I wasn't thinking about the cost, just the extent of my disgust with those who harm children. I know it's unrealistic, but to be honest I really wouldn't have a problem with them being executed depending on the circumstances and extent of injury. You are obviously much more measured about this than I am and what you say makes sense. It has touched my life directly, and perhaps that is why I react so strongly to the subject.

If you are able to find out where sex offenders live by virtue of your rights under Megan's Law, it follows that they did not get away with it. To be listed as a sex offender requires one to have been convicted of said crime.

Please also bear in mind that many sex offenders are on the register because, as a teenager, they had consensual sex with another teenager who happened to be under-age. Leaving those people aside, I do agree, though, that sex offenders should be locked up until it can be demonstrated that they are no longer a danger to society. My wife is a psychiatric nurse and I trust her judgement that that is hardly ever.

EDIT: Elway, there are two good reasons for not executing child molestors. Firstly, the death penalty costs more than locking them up. Secondly, they can actually perform useful functions provided they are watched and kept under control. Many sex offenders can be good hard workers. Give them some manual labor to do in a secure setting and they do really well most of the time. i guess its all the sexual energy getting channeled in the right direction. So I lean towards locking them up.

FURTHER EDIT: Elway, I see where you're coming from. If I had been personally affected by such a vile offense, I might hold your view as well. For now though, I will maintain my belief that locking them up is better.

What is innocence and how is it defined for most people .
If you are like me any innocent is nothing more then a victim of others .
Till you see the world as it truly is you have no defenses against others .
They say almost all child molesters where themselves molested .

So dos this indicate that ones experiences in life tend to shape ones actions later on .

There is no justification for any adult to have relations with a child prior to their becoming pubescent .
Not long ago Men who may have been 30 where married to women who where only 14or 15 years old . This was fairly common .

Now I know today this is no longer the practice but you have understand that peoples sexual drive is extremely strong .
So we have a certain number of people in the population who are attracted to young people .
This is not their fault and they have let control over it . So do you want them locked away for 40 50 30 60 how many years .

What we need is a more open society where sex is discussed and treatment is available to help possible offenders become aware of the triggers that lead to inappropriate sexual advances to age inappropriate people .
I new a guy who married a 55 year old woman when he was 19 .
Mother Issue ----- who knows .
60 year old men who marry 20 year old women is another problem .

So since we all have a notion in our minds what is and is not acceptable it has to be judged on weather or not force or threats where used .

Or was it simply people doing what people do .

you would think that college educated teachers would know better then to have sex with students .

But sex is one of those things that is built into each of us . Chemicals our bodies produce to attract mates . Familiar smells and sounds all make for the possibility of interaction .

I find it hard to believe that a 13 year old boy and a 24 year old woman do not no what they are getting into .

I can't believe how many answers here are blaming the left
when they have Mark Foley & Ted Haggard as role models.
Another thing I have a hard time accepting is why are our
tax dollars keeping people in prison for one joint, when
these creeps are free to be on the lose.
I agree with Elway, there is no cure for child molesters &
they should be locked up. I've seen molesters interviewed
& even they agree, nothing can stop them, except to keep
them away from children. I have no sympathy for them.
What they have done to their victims makes me cry,
because I know their victims have been tramatized
for the rest of their lives.

For one thing, they don't get more sympathy. In fact, there have been many very young people, under the age of 21, who have been branded as "pedophiles" of "predators" simply because they had innocent, consensual sex with someone 17 years old who knew exactly what the score was, but because of outdated laws, the 19 or 20-year old went to prison. By the way, consensual, in case you don't know, means "both parties agreed to do it."
So, as long as there are people like you who want to go up to the doors of people who have probably paid their debt to society and brand a scarlet letter on them for the rest of their lives, and try to be judge, jury, and executioner, NOBODY is safe in America.
You sound like a snitch, not to mention a hateful, judgemental person.
I might not like child-molesters, if that's really what they are, but I also don't feel the need to ruin the lives of others, even if they're "sinners" just to try to make myself feel like I'm better than they are.
Grow the hell up, and mind your own business.
And, by the way, Elway, in most states, sex between a 21-year old and a 17-year old IS considered child molestation. And, no, no nerves struck here beyond the fact that, as an American, I believe that if a person has paid their debt to society, they DO deserve another chance to live right. Provided they don't do it again.

Because 2 wrongs don't make a right. Just because they broke the law does not mean that you should too. That is a horrible thing that they did but you can't go around to peoples private places and harrass them, and you think people would just say that they are a monster? no someone would kill them..and we can't have people going around killing other people, even if people think thye deserve it...we are suppose to be civilized.

I like your passion though.

and you could always try to make it so the sentences get harsher for child molesters.

Until our laws are tightened up to the point where child molesters are locked up for the rest of their lives, they have the same rights and freedoms you and I do.

This means that you can't just knock on anyones door and start assaulting them. If you don't like the laws, work to change them.....

They are not above the law and neither are you. If you go to them and tell them that you think they are disgusting to their face, then that could be construed as harassment.

You could write an article or essay about the different offenders in your area and have it published though.

These low life scum get NO sympathy from me. I personally think they should be locked up for life.

What you're talking about is where to put the line between freedom of speach and harassment. I'm sure you could get away with doing something like that to someone, at least once. If you create a pattern of harasment or intimidation with many such acts, though, you should get into trouble.

JESSICA'S LAW IS THE WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!

Because of this A$$H*le, crimes against defenseless children should not be tolerated, reguardless if your a Liberal, left wing nut, or Republican. EVERY STATE SHOULD HAVE JESSICA LAW'S ON THE BOOKS.

Federal agents arrested Charles Rust-Tierney, the former president of the Virginia chapter of the ACLU, Friday in Arlington for allegedly possessing child pornography.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by ABC News, Rust-Tierney allegedly used his e-mail address and credit card to subscribe to and access a child pornography website.

The complaint states that federal investigations into child pornography websites revealed that “Charles Rust-Tierney has subscribed to multiple child pornography website over a period of years.”

As recently as last October, the complaint alleges, “Rust-Tierney purchased access to a group of hardcore commercial child pornography websites.”

I guess that explains why he argued against restricting public internet access in public libraries in Virginia:

“Recognizing that individuals will continue to behave responsibly and appropriately while in the library, the default should be maximum, unrestricted access to the valuable resources of the Internet.”
