Danny Glover is a fine actor and has always been way to the left of center politically, which is not necessarily a bad thing. I think that the American poeple can not really know what Chavez's true intentions are at this point. He has a lot of problems over there to solve such as poor living standards for much of the Venezuelan people, extremely poor sanitation in the rural areas, insufficient healthcare supplies and expertise, a very unstable political climate, and too many poor and undeucated people. On the plus side, he has lots of oil, which is the main problem that the Bush administration has with him.
Chavez is charging his own people 37 cents a gallon for gas and is exporting, mostly to Europe at extremely inflated prices. The fact of the matter is that Venezuela needs that money to feed and improve the lives of their people. (As to whether Chavez really wants to do this, I think the jury is still out - he is in a very difficult position politically). The Bush adinistration wants Venezuela to export the oil to them at very cheap prices, which is something the Venezuelans will not do. European gas prices are > $6 per gallon.
So, being the spoiled little children that they are, Georgie Boy, Dick, and Condi all start spouting hatred on the airwaves about Venezuela and Chavez. Not good. Chavez gets irritated and starts firing back. And so on, and so on, and so on.
Now if we had some individuals in the White House that actualy had the ability to govern and work with other people, (they are the ones that wouldn't share the blocks with you in K-5), we could probably work out a deal where we could give them technological expertise in computer technology, heallthcare, banking, etc and cut a deal. By doing so, of course, we would reduce our dependence on middle eastern oil.But hey, Chavez is a commie, and we'd rather deal with the sheiks from Arabique.,
My assumption is that Danny Glover may have gotten to know Mr. Chavez and is comfortable with him. I don't think he is so unprincipled that he would allow himself to be used as a "tool" by Chavez and do it simply for the money.
What do you think. my friend. You always have good things to say on these boards :)

Danny Glover is not paying attention to the politics of the situation. He's looking at the cheap oil prices that Chavez allows the US in order to help the poor. Glover's interest is in the poor more than politics.

Another leftist Hollywood moron who thinks he's above his own government. Remember Hanoi Jane? And add to the fact that he wants to make a film about the slave uprising in Haiti, but refuses to shoot any of it actually in Haiti. The Haitians are quite perturbed about having their history filmed in another country. Sounds a bit hypocritical, doesn't it? Glover, Belafonte and the rest of the GOP-haters would love nothing more than to bring a Chavez-style govt to the U.S. Hollywood really needs to try and make better movies than to continually promote their screwy liberal agenda.

Glover's conscious effort and support of the socialist revolution in Venezuela is to be commended and appreciated.
it's just a gesture towards an internationalist spirit of solidarity that is most needed today among the oppressed of the world.

Dan Glover is an idiot. People in Hollywood live in a world of make believe. They may be talented actors. But their political views carry as much weight as yours and mine. They can afford to have left wing liberal loony views. When they make millions on a movie, they still end up with millions after paying taxes.
