It seems to be those who monitor one particular topic (software, Yahoo! Products for example) who achieve Top Contributor status. A person who answers any type of question that they feel able to is less likely to become a Top Contributor because their answers are spread over several topics

I bounce around too much, from cars to dating to politics to health and fitness and engineering and math and science and of course P&S..I should have a 'knows a lot about everything badge'...haha

There were all so many given and taken and given back and taken again. I had one twice. Now they can keep it. I don't want it and if I get it, I WILL request that they take it back.
