There is a limitation to the maximum capacity of the Hard Drive a computer can recognize. So accordingly it would be a good idea and a safe bet to check the specification of your Laptop at the HP Website and buy a Hard Drive accordingly.

There are various websites that sell the Laptop Hard disk Drives. Normally I would suggest a Toshiba or a Hitachi Hard Disk Drive. These seem to be the best choice in Hard Drives for the Laptops. Dell, HP, IBm, etc are known to use these Hard Disk Drives. They last a long time and are very stable as far as known. IBM's Hard Disk Drive business was acquired by Hitachi a few years back.

Instead of buying from the Internet , I would suggest that you buy it from your neighbourhood computer store. This is because there may be some sort of warranty (or even rebates) on such Hard Disk Drives and in case of any problems you can take it back to them and give them a piece of your mind. Buying from the Internet does not give you this safety margin.

Good Luck !

First, Look on the bottom of your laptop and get the service code or the express service code. Then go to hp.com. You can plug this code into dell's site and it will give you all the details on your exact laptop. It will also give you options to upgrade with parts through hp, however, after you gather your info on the laptop (the hard drive type in particulars), I would do a general search (maybe even try ebay), and find a new hard drive for yourself (much cheaper than going throught hp). I have done this over 9 times with laptops and it has worked everytime.
