The question says "predict the ion charge of the following elements . . ." I'm in grade ten science, and I'm stupid at this, I need easy explanations :)

Want clarification, is it ionic charge or oxidation number?
Free elements have zero charge.
Charge of ionic elements depend on the number of electrons lost or gained.

Note the position in the periodic table. Metals in columns 1, 2, and 3 will take a positive charge of that amount. Elements in columns 5, 6, and 7 tend to take a negative charge so as to have eight electrons in the outer shell. Oxygen, for example, in column 6, would be expected to add two electrons to make eight in the outer shell, acquiring a charge of -2 in the process.

Main group metal: positive charge = Group Number.

Non-metal: negative charge = 8 - Group Number.
