To me (and other people I've told), it seems early to be having an ultrasound! I'm probably only maybe...6-8 weeks pregnant, and not starting to show at all yet. The doctor wants to get me in for an ultrasound just a couple days after I initially came in and had the pregnancy test, "to see how far along" I am or whatever, but I just wonder, at this stage, what will they really be able to see, or what can they tell - wouldn't anything be so tiny at this point!?
Anyway, guess I just want to hear others' experiences with something like this..! lol

I had my first ultrasound at 6 weeks. From that they were able to tell when I was due, when i conceived, etc. What you are thinking is of a regular ultrasound that they do when your belly's big...you know over the belly. But the one that you will have is a vaginal ultrasound. I even got an ultrasound picture, of course the baby looks like a little peanut but I was able to hear the heartbeat and everything...not a lot of people can hear the heartbeat so early. I was lucky, the doctor said the heartbeat was really strong. I cried at my first ultrasound, up until that moment it didn't seem real to me but once I heard the heartbeat and saw it beating...it became as real as it can get. Good Luck!

I had my first ultrasound at 6 weeks because they wanted to be sure that my hormone levels matched how far along I was (I have hormonal problems and they wanted to be extra sure everything was OK). At 6 weeks we saw a teeny tiny white blob in an amniotic sack with a heartbeat. You probably won't be able to hear the heartbeat until the 10-14 week. My first "baby picture" looks like a marshmallow. They can also tell if the baby has implanted properly and not too low or in a tube or something dangerous like that.
Good luck, don't worry, and be sure to get a copy of that first picture!

I myself had one at 4, 6, and 8 weeks like the other ladies said you will be able to see a flicker which is the heartbeat you might also be able to hear it. Just be prepared it is not an over the belly ultrasound it will more likely be a vaginal ultra sound.

That's the right time frame! I think mine was a little later like 9 weeks because of a scheduling mistake. They are able to see a heartbeat, although they won't hear it yet. In my first ultrasound I could already see his arms and legs moving around, I don't know if that's only cause it was later. Good luck and congrats!

It will be a little ball attached to the yolk sac. But it's still cute. Be happy, you might have a doc that will give you lots of ultrasounds throughout. Most only want to do one or two. Also, you'll be able to hear a heartbeat. I had one at 7 weeks and although it was that little ball, the heartbeat was strong and healthy!!! Good luck!!

I had a scan at 8 weeks. It was called a dating scan. The Consultant was pointing out various bits, such as the crown, the rump, the yolk sac, but to me it was just a grainy blob on the screen. However........
I was able to see a tiny pulse which was my babies heartbeat. The Consultant then during the sound up and I was able to hear it for myself. That was the most magical thing ever.
Enjoy the experiance.

At this stage the dr's only want to verify your babys gestational age. so they can better tell you your due date. And at 6-8 weeks your baby is still devolping most of its features. As for being able to see anything, they will be able to see the heartbeat and hear it too with a microphone thingy(im not sure exactly what is called) as well as make sure its forming properly. I myself had, my first ultra sound at 9weeks so its not early at all.

I've already had 2 ultra sounds, and I'm only 9 wks. They use the ultrasound to determine how far along you are, and even though the baby is VERY small, it can still be used to detect problems....this is not uncommon practice for an O.B.

You won't be able to see much, basically a flicker of a heartbeat. It's useful for the doctor though, because they can measure it and date exactly how far along you are. I had one at 6 weeks since my period had been very irregular and I had no idea how far along I was.

You might be able to see the heartbeat, something in the effect of a peanut shaped baby, nothing is really developed enough to make out.
Good Luck!
