I'm turning 16 this December. Is it true that next year if you want to get driver's license you will have to be 18??
If I do my permit this summer will I still be able to get my driver's license before I turn 18??

You didn't mention what state you currently reside in. Drivers licensing laws vary from state to state. I have not heard of such a law but I am from Ohio and the laws may be different depending on where you live.

Call your local Department of Motor Vehicles and ask them, or visit www.dmv.org for information pertaining to your state.

It will depend on what state you live in. Google it with your state.
More and more states are adopting this. I know that California has this law. I live in Washington state and we don't yet, but I think they are considering it also. I believe the reason that they are is because of amount of accidents and deaths among 16 - 18 year olds while driving. Insurance agencies make it hard to afford insurance for this age also.

You will probably lose your license in January 2007 and then get your permit back when you turn 18

its a state by state issue. Usually those under a18 are put on a graduated license system (that means there are restrictions as to when you can drive, whom you can drive with, and how many mandatory hours of driver's education and real-world driving you must do prior to taking the road test)
