I think so.
"To Protect and To Serve" is supposed to be their motto, but I see very few of them following it anymore.
Nowadays they look more like a paramilitary force than Officer Friendly.

Police dont make the laws they just enforce them. Granted, that some officer charge for what some people believe are chicken s**t charges. But ever since Ive been in law enforcement Ive seen new laws activated because of the problems we were having. As far as a military stance, why not. LAPD did real good with just uniform cops with pistols againist two heavily armed bank robbers. We have to adapt to what the criminals do. Some might not understand, but I can asure you when you are faced with those odds you are glad to see a officer pull out a big 'ol boom stick.

The military look and swagger of the police is primarily caused by the fact that we are at war. Many police are ex-military and they carry it with them in another uniform. There was also a kind of mass need for that military like appearance after 9/11. This need is fading, but the appearance lingers. I am not really certain that there was any conscious change in the police, so much as the way we view them. Fines for crimes do not have a big impact on budgets.

You seem a little paranoid. But if it's a safe area maybe it's because of police presence. You're right about government passing too many laws though.

In the words of Rage against the machine...So called facts are fraud
They want us to allege and pledge
And bow down to their God
Lost the culture, the culture lost
Spun our minds and through time
Ignorance has taken over
Yo, we gotta take the power back!
Bam! Here's the plan
Motherf*ck Uncle Sam.... ........................................................and to think I wanted to be a cop not to damn long ago. Not now. Not for this piece of ****. I am not going to put my *** on the line for rouge corporations and corrupt government any damn more.

yes I agree 100%, the same is going on where I live. I think it is mainly a control issue. Cause you know most cops are the ones that were bullied in school.
