When a person takes your order, be it at a dine in restaurant or fast-food, the computers these days want all the facts. When the girl takes your order...more than likely two or three people will be involved before it reaches your hands. Instead of them yelling back and forth to each other..."hey does she want ketchup...how many" etc...they plug it into the computer now. I don't think they are charging for ketchup...yet. Dressings and stuff like bbq sauce...probably. Good luck.

It's definitely just for the people that put your order together so that they know what to give you. Secondly, if you see $0.00 wouldn't that answer your question that they aren't charging for ketchup? You didn't pay for it did you?

It might be true that McDonalds is charging for the ketchup, because the other day, I went to Wendys and asked for an extra salad dressing and the lady at the cash register charged me, one dollar for it.

I think that the first answer has it right. I do not think that they are charging for ketchup, I think they are just trying to keep track of how much they use.

It's probley just an inventory count so that they know how many are used per customer. I would guess hola I can't believe they would charge but you never know cause they do charge for like chicken mc nugget sauces after a certain amount I think.

They are tracking the use of condiments. I was in line the other day, and an employee cut up a lemon and put it in her glass of water, and the manager asked her if she had punched up the lemon on the cash register, so they must be seeing what the usage is.

They do it for two reasons.
1.) To keep track for inventory.
2.) To tell the worker at the window what condiments to give you.

Don't think they're charging for it.....but they may be 'tracking' the amount of condiments given out.

They do that to remind themselves. If you want a plain burger it will usually say the same thing.
