Is conscience a result of nature of nurture?

Question

Is there a way to tell whether conscience is an inborn witness bearer or whether it is a social construct?

The question should read, "Is conscience a result of nature or nurture?"

a certain instinctual conscience is natural, but as you grow up it will drastically change based on your environment.

I think you have some sort of conscience when you are born, so that would be considered nature. But then it depends on how you were grown to be that decides which makes you get your conscience kicking and which won't.

But if it was a choice between the two, I think it's more of nature, because you should be guilty about something, even it's right or wrong.

As usual a bit of both. The super ego is like a conscience. Keeps the ego in check. Every one is supposed to have one of those Supers watching over em just some peoples are more narrow in there views then others. There is no selfless act. There is no good or evil. It is just you me us and them. The super decides how the self acts towards these groups / selves which will benefit self most. Edumacated supers can make better choices because they realize what benefits them will benefit others and working cooperatively gives big advantages. Most of this stuff goes on in the subconscious, but if we think about it, it sinks in.

humans are born with the capacity for certain feelings, some of which could lead to the development of a conscience... but if that capacity isnt nurtured, it may not become a conscience. and of course, nurture doesnt guarantee that one WILL develop either.

Both! We are born will certain instincts in our conscious mind, instilled in us by nature so we can survive! Our consciousness is then continually molded by nurture!
