Can be a fairly disgusting habit if you're not discreet about where you spit and don't keep the stuff brushed out of your teeth. However, if you HAVE to have a vice, it beats smoking. At least you're only endangering your own health and not the health of those around you. Remember, though, that it IS NOT healthy (could cause lip, tongue, gum, or throat cancer) and is highly addictive.
