What do I do now? It is windows xp, and I just want to figure out how to update this thing and make it child friendly, so I am not allowed to install anything like micromedia flash player 9, and so can't do lots of stuff I want to. What can I do to either change the administrator or over-ride or something. The person I got the comp from has moved out of state and there is no way for me to get the password from him.

Sorry, Im at work right now and don't know the make/model of the tower, the monitor is a HP so that might be it. I might have to come back later after I go home and edit. The os is WinXP, but he didn't have the disk for me when I got this.

Also, thanks I will try the safe mode, is there a way to delete the user now once I set up my own?

When I go into safe mode it asks for the password. It is an ibm. Plus there is no "run" in the start menu. There is nothing on this thing except old internet access. I don't want to have to buy a new cd, what else can I try to reset this thing. Even if I lose everything but the operating system, winxp, that would be fine, I just want control of my computer, ahhhhh.

boot up the computer, about 10 seconds into the boot up start tapping the F8 key, you will get the computer to run in safe mode, it will say start in safe mode (you hit enter for yes) let it go all the way through the safe mode setup, then it will tell you your running in safe mode,, click on start, click on control panel click on user accounts

you then have three choices the first two are what count here
(1) change an account
(2) create a new account

click on create an account
then create your new account
type in your new name for the account, don't use the same one you have now, once you have done that,,, give it a password but don't forget it give your self all the administrator privileges by clicking on administrator..

then you can make new accounts for the kids but don't give them administrator accounts, each of you will have a separate log on window once you have clicked on your personal Icons at boot up

If you give the make and model many people would be able to help.
So go back to your question and add them.
