hiya, if you cannot pay a bill for your dinner then the restaurant staff cannot make you do the pots as this is illegal as company's have no insurance for this, they only have insurance for you as a customer if you arnt actually on their payroll. most places however will take your details and arrange for you to pay the bill later. if you still don't pay then the police can get you for theft! that however is if you gave them your details correctly.

It depends on the restaurant and how well they know you. Some establishments will hold the bill while you go hime, retrieve your wallet and pay. Some restaurants will wait a day for you to return with payment. Not paying could get you a fine on top of the unpaid bill. If the bill goes unpaid and you cannot be found, it could fall on the waitress/waiter to pay the bill, while some reataurants will absorb it as a business loss. It is sbest to make certain you have your wallet, and that there is cash, or palstic in it before going out to eat. Such a mistake could ruin a dinner date.

In some countries .. they will kill you and sell your possessions to cover the tab..
.. but generally, you get a chance to square up .. by making a phone call, leaving "proof of willing", or the like ... there are some places which will make you "work off the meal" ... by washing up .. or something similar ...
.. try not to leave your wallet at home .. I don't think there is any way to avoid embarrassment in that situation!!

No, they don't make you actually wash the dishes like in old TV shows, but the can call the police and have you arrested. It's considered stealing. Most people check to see if they have their credit card or some cash with them before even entering a restaurant. If you should find yourself in that predicament, make sure you have a friend who is available by phone to come to your rescue. And I wouldn't go back to that eatery again.

I had that happen to me once, left my wallet at home like that guy in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. They just took down my address & phone number, and asked me to mail in payment, which I did.

If you've frequented that establishment before, they may let it slide untill you can come back with payment, although they may ask for some sort of collatoral (a mobile phone, camera, watch etc) to ensure you certainly come back.
I dunno, never been in that situation before honestly, but I wouldn't wanna be in it to find out!

They will probably allow you to make call to get money. If you are really broke, they might just call the police.
