If so, what is it? I am 41 and going back to school to earn a BS in business. Is it worth it?

I have a BS in Business and I have had several great opportunites because of it. However, there are so many colleges that offer certificates that take less time and provide fabulous job opportunities I would look into those first. College is always worth it! Good Luck!

In the overall scheme of things a degree has one main purpose. It increases you ability to earn money in your life time. Studies have shown that a Bachelor's degree can improve your earnings by 20% or more in your lifetime. It also can improve the number of jobs that you qualify for, and shows a basic level of communications ability to potential employers. I learned the value of a degree as a young military man. All the officers had degrees and most of the enlisted men did not. I was a high school drop out and the career choices were extremely limited. I began to take courses and eventually worked my way through an Associate Degree, a Bachelors Degree and a Master's Degree. I retired from the military with a high rank and then went to work for the government using my education to secure a job with a great income, and lots of benefits. When I retire from this job I will never have to worry about where my income will come from.

I have two degrees .. A BS and and MS, both in Psychology. Was it worth it? Yes, it was for me. I'm retired now, but can still 'do my job' by answering questions on this site. If you enjoy 'business' and want a degree in it, then go for it ... even if you 'never use it' you'll still appreciate having it, and having done all of the work it is taking you to get it. I think that we only start to get old, when we STOP LEARNING ... and I'm even thinking of going back to school, as a freshman, to take a totally different degree ... I'm 56, and the only reason I haven't gone back yet, is trying to decide 'what I want to be' next in my life.

YES! Business is the best degree to get because its the most universal. I have a degree in Communications and regret it every day. I'm going for my MBA now and wish I had a Business degree. Make sure you go to a good school, a Business degree from a top 50 school is almost a different degree than say a Business degree from Cal State-Chico.

Yes I did: BS Aerospace Sciences. Class of 86.

Took me 4 years to earn it, and 10 years to pay it off.

No it wasn't worth it. I work for Boeing and they could care less. I get more ridicule than respect for it.

Yes. I am a teacher and I am currently working on my master's degree. I am 24 years old. I enjoy learning and I love the fact that I get to be a life long learner.

I think you should go back if you really have a strong interest in doing something else. If you are pretty content with your job and education level, then I would do your own learning at your own pace.

I have BS in Occupational Health & Safety.

This is one of the highest paid positions on a construction site. I love my job and would not trade it for the world. I do, however have an Associates in Business Management.

Good Luck

I am going to be 40 and I am working towards my BS in Business Administration. After that, I am going to get certified in computer security. It is worth it. You get better positions and more money.
