when on a dial up connection u will not ev any outgoin or imcoming calls when connected! if u want ur house phone 2 work while on d net u need 2 get a thing called a microfilter, this seperates the phone n internet connection/line.
But if ur goin 4 broadband, i strongly recommand Talktalk coz they r excellent n really gud service! if u join them u get free broadband, n unlimited calls all for 21 pounds per month! its 8mgs, 40gb usage! its really really da best! or atleast ev a luk on www.talktalk.co.uk. try it!!!

The box is called a filter and is supposed to filter the modem line to not interfere with the phone line, but when you are online with dial up your phone wont work. There are many cheap broadband suppliers, I use Orange have used it since it was wanadoo it is £14.99 a month and have never had a problem with it. But I have been thinking of going over to Somerfield as they do cheap and good wireless. Don't go over to sky, Talk Talk or Bulldog as I have heard they are not too good.
Might be an idea for you to learn a little about computers as it will make your life easier and cheaper using one, the link below has some information which is useful.
Hope this helps

If You Are Online On The Computer The Phone Line Is NOT Available For Calls. Turn Off The Internet Connection When You're Not Online. If This Doesn't Work Check The Phone Connections For Damage Or Breakage. Good Luck!

The thingy with two sockets is called a double BT adapter (UK). If you are connected to the internet, your phone will not be able to use the same line, and vice versa. On theother hand, if you have broadband, you can use the phone even when you are connected to the internet because the broadband signals are of a different frequency and can be multiplexed (combined) with your voice calls. Note also that when you are using your dial up, others cannot phone you because your number will be engaged.
Dialups don't use filters. Another possibility is that your modem was configured to answer on first ring and it could be answering incoming calls! Check if it is, or switch it off and try.
P.S. Is it possible your double adapter is faulty? Have you tried another one?

Sounds like stutter dial tone usually from having a voice mail message pick up the message and it will stop. It should NOT affect broadband. People with dial up just set the modem to wait 12 seconds before dialing and the tone will end

First plug the phone in the socket you will be plugging the computer into. Is there a dial tone ? If so then plug the computer modem jack marked line to the wall jack. Plug the phone into the other jack marked phone. You should get a dial tone withe the computer off.

Ouch dial up is painful. It's slow and you can't really watch any videos or listen to music. If you wanna im and just email then dial up will save you money. But if you're like me and you always need to use the computer for a lot of stuff then go for broadband or dsl. Dsl can be wireless too you just need a router and it's cheaper. It goes a normal speed and is not completely terrible. So whatever works out for you. I prefer wireless broadband. Good luck.

The little box is called a "splitter". Without special software you cannot use your landline while you are online. The telephone line is already in use by your computer and anyone calling your number will get a busy signal.
IF DSL is available in your area, you should consider getting it, as you can telephone and be connected to the internet at the same time. No problem.
Good luck.

im understanding that the question is that you have the wall socket with two exits, and whenever you have your phone connected to one of the sockets, your computer internet wont work...
what I guess you should do if you haven't tried already, is switch around the sockets... meaning that if you have the telephone on the top and the computer on the bottom, switch them around.. computer on top and telephone on the bottom. I hope it helps.
