I was taking down old lathe and plaster in our house and found this in the wall among other things. It is printed on very old fabric. The fabric looks like it may have covered a canning jar at one time the way it is made. I am trying to find out what the emblem is or means. Our house was built in 1865 so it may be something from a long time ago. Does anyone know what it is?
I posted pictures of it at:

The writing is really fancy so I can't make out everything on it. It does say trademark and I believe one of the other words is culture. The is another word on the top right of the circle I can't read because the script of the writing. I live in upstate NY.

It looks like an old flour sack or feed sack. If you're really curious, contact your local Historical Society and ask one of them to look at it. If it is an old flour sack, they should have access to the old trademark books (or your state library will) and you can figure out who made it.

The first responder and you yourself uncovered the main details. In the center, there appear the initials S&S. Over the top, "Culture, Art, Honore." Underside "Trade Mark," as you pointed out. Over the top, a rampant bird that seems not to be an eagle.

It says "Labore (et) Honore" ("Work (and) Honor"), a very common motto you find at schools and factories.
