Taken to an extreme, cloning could have a significant impact on a species. Diversity is an important aspect to the survival of a species.
For example, let's say that some farmer breeds the perfect cow that tastes amazing and produces the best milk. And everyone around the world begins cloning this cow, and getting rid of their stocks of other cows. Eventually, every cow is a perfect clone of this cow. And then, along comes a deadly disease that this cow doesn't have any resistance to. Since all the cows around the world are the exact same, none of them have any resistance to this disease either, and all of them are wiped out by it. That would be bad.
A normal cow population might have had some members with a variation that was resistant to that disease. While many cows would have died, those that were left would have baby cows that were also resistant to the disease and the cow population would survive.

There could be a million of George Bush clones or Rosie clones or perhaps a master race will appear.

During the process of cloning the DNA has to be extracted. Because this procedure is not yet perfected the DNA is open to any form of manipulation such as viruses and stuff like that since it was removed from the nucleus of the cell. Even the procedure of removing the DNA from the nucleus can cause mutations or flaws in it from the strain of the removing procedure.

there is also a shortened life-span. cloning has not been perfected so many characteristics of the cell altered during the process. the shortened telomeric sequence in chromosomes is one of many characteristics of this.
look into some C. Elegans cloning - they have been able to increase their lifespan 8-fold by controlling certain proteins inside them. also, Dolly the sheep - she died very young.

You could screw up and create a deformed human being with all type of genetic defects. The procedure is not perfect, and animal cones usually die young.
