Well, a memory stick is a proprietary Sony device and usually you can write to one from a Sony video camera or digital device. Sony computers come with memory stick ports and have the software to write to them. When open My Computer and you will see something like G: Memory Stick Reader and when you actually insert the memory stick into this reader it will change from the default to some message that shows you inserted something.

If by "memory stick" you are referring to what is commonly known as a USB flash drive, then it is a bit easier. Insert your flash drive or pen drive into an available USB port and a message will pop up asking you what you want to do, view pictures, open in a new window etc..

Some memory sticks come with their very own software to manage your reading and writing. A couple of my Sandisks have something called PocketCache for backing up files and another piece called CruzerSync for backing up Outlook stuff.

Other memory sticks just act like external drives. Two others of mine, you just drag and drop files and/or folders from the PC to the external drive, and that's it.

Plug it into the USB your system should recognice it and it should be visible in "My Computer" as an additional drive. You simply save or copy files there then as you would do with a hard drive or a floppy disk drive
