I live for jazz, here is my answer...

These albums that I am suggesting are easy to like. Yes, Charlie Parker and Dizzy were great, but not for beginners. These albums are perfect for all listeners, and they are all jazz classics. There is great energy in these albums, even when they play ballads.I know what I am talking about. Get these albums.

Miles Davis Kind of Blue album. It's a great album for a beginner, and it's great even if you've heard a whole lot of jazz. Get it. http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=&sql=10:3ifrxqegld0e

Thelonious is another great and important master of jazz. I suggest that you start out with the Monk's Dream album. Don't operate heavy machinery while listening. Monk swings the hardest of any jazz musician, in my little opinion. http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=&sql=10:fxfyxqegldhe

This is the album that really turned me onto jazz. I still enjoy it and respect it. http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:kvfoxq85ldke

This is a great album, centered around the guitar playing, although McCoy Tyner is at his best (piano player from Coltrane's band). It's another great album that's easy to like. http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=&sql=10:jzfpxq8gldfe

Here's a great album that you really have to hear. I can't even talk about it. The whole band is amazing. http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:dxfexqygldae

Another great and easy to like album. Freddie Hubbard is at his best through the whole album (on trumpet, fluglehorn). It's a concept album, and it really does flow like the sea, as Herbie intended it to. http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:3xfuxq9gldhe

Horace Silver plays piano with soul. The songs are great and so is the band. Everything works on this album. It's another easy to like album too. http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:axfoxqygldae

Please trust these suggestions. These are classic albums. They are accesible to any listener.

PS-Jazz is the best art form. If you need any more help, I am happy to help get you started. Someone helped me a while back, now I am happy to be able to help others.

Another PS-Here's a modern great. Personally, I think it's a great album. http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:wiftxqqaldse

Happy listening. Your going to have people bopin' all over the store.

Teaim has a really good list. Don't use vocal jazz! Although it can be really good in the right setting, I think your store should use instrumental only--it is more conducive to doing business. Anything by Dave Brubeck or Antonio Carlos Jobim would set a great atmosphere though not always nostalgic! Brian Setzer and some of the "new" swing bands could give a real new-old feeling to your store!

Anything from the albums Kind of Blue (Miles Davis), A Love Supreme (John Coltrane), or Night Train (Oscar Peterson). The best individual song is probabaly In A Sentimental Mood by Coltrane.

I like Vocal Jazz. Recently, I heard a track called 'I might' by Norman Brown. I also heard music from a singer called Lina. You may find them at www.imeem.com. They have a jazz flavor. These are modern day artists that I like.
