It will work with other candies and other sodas, but not as explosively. The current theory is that there are microdepressions on the surface of the Mentos that help to generate the foam. We're tackling the question in Science Camp this summer--come on by!

Its a chemical reaction, and yes it will work with just about any soda. Other candy probably will not produce the desired results.

Mythbusters tried it and it just makes mountains and mountains of foam.
