Why is it that an 18 year old white girl with no high school diploma can get a job, but a black girl with a diploma and currently enrolled in school can't get a job anywhere no matter if she's qualified.

This is a real situation. The white girl is a highs chool drop out with no experience and the black girl got her diploma and is in school to become a court reporter.

The black girl doesn't speak ebonics and many have told her she sounds white. She was dressed well and good hygeine. The white girl is a chain smoker with yellow teeth.

Depends on the job. Do you speak with a ghetto accent? If the job involved sales or a high level of communications skills I would not hire the person with the ghetto accent if they were black or white....Is she related to any principles in the company? Nepotism runs rampant in the working world! Being qualified does not meake you the best person for the job. I'm qualified to be a baseball coach but I don't expect to be hired by the Atlanta Braves. And last but not least... it is not "with no highschool diploma", it is "without a highschool diploma". I guess you must have missed that day in elementary school, junior high school, high school and first year of college.

How do you know the White girl has no high school diploma? How do you know that the White girl doesn't have experience and skills that you don't have? You need to stop listening to Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and go get a job if you really want one. They are the ones "keepin' you down" so they can stay up where they are rich and important. If anything, Blacks are the ones getting jobs they neither want to do nor are qualified so that employers can avoid the claims of "racism" that we have here. There are plenty of jobs out there if you want one and plenty of employers out there who would hire in in a nanosecond.

(1) Don't make everything as a "racial" issue. That won't do you any good in the long run.
(2) Perhaps you are over-qualified?
(3) Perhaps the white girl applied before you did?
(4) Perhaps you were applying to the wrong jobs (other places that rejected you, that is)?
...etc...etc. The reason(s) can go on and on.
It will be a lot more helpful if you can find a local career advisor (ie, local college or local high school) and ask them about all the potential options that you may have at your current stage.

Sometimes companies hire lesser qualified people because its more cost effective. The lesser qualified person will be less likely to ask for more money, won't be a good candidate for promotion's or raises and can be easily disposed of right before they reach whatever the companies probationary period may be,if they stick around that long. Therefore the company doesn't have to pay out any extra cash for benefits like health insurance or 401K.Honestly this situation may have more to do with the bottom line and less to do with race. Also the job market for the area may be lousy.

Who told you this? There are tons of 18 year old black girls working. How do you suppose they got a job? This is not about race. I am a white male and I've gone longer than 8 months without being able to find a job. Was that racism?

I have 3 Afro-American females all under the age of 20 working for me. If you can't find a job in a country that has an unemployment rate 4.5%, then it is a YOU problem. Quit blamming others for your lack of effort. I'm sure you are going to spend all your time blamming "the man". By doing so, you continue to set your race back. Grow up and take some responsibility for yourself.

Was the black girl with a diploma equally dressed and articulate as the white girl with no diploma?

Many employers do not hire university students because they are not a good risk. For most students, it is difficult to juggle college classes and a job , too.. unless it is a part time job. In that case, maybe the hours conflict with the course requirements.

Now those are very serious charges there little lady. Let's look at what's happening here. How are you dressed? How do you present your self? How do you handle the interview? Think about the questions YOU ask in the interview. I've seen people talk themselves right out of a job when they start talking about time off and such. I have hired as many blacks as white in my day and it is all about the interview and how you present your self.

Without giving any details, it sounds racist. I would suggest if qualifications were met the same by both girls, then having High School diploma should be worth more. Maybe the other girl had a high School equivalent certificate. That would make it equal. The most qualified should get the job.
