If you are getting prompted for the password as soon as the computer turns on, before it starts to load Windows or anything else, then it is a setting in the computer's BIOS. Since the control for that is different for every computer, check the website of the maker of the computer. They will have information on how to clear a BIOS password. It usually involves opening the computer and moving a jumper or switch, or removing a battery for a short time to clear the information.

If it asks for the password right away, then it means it is a BIOS password and to reset it you'd probably need to reset the BIOS by changing a jumper in your motherboard(Though to do this you need to be an advanced user, which I am guessing you are not)

If you're asking about a windows password, try the following:

Start windows in safe mode and log on as "Administrator"
That account will most likely have no password, then you can go to Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Modify an existing account, check the other existing accounts(The name of the account is the username you are looking for) and then you have two options: Change the password(To something you'll remember) or just remove the password entirely.

If the Administrator account has a password, however, You're better off calling tech support. I could give you directions, but unless you're hundred percent sure of what you're doing, you could break your pc.

If this is BIOS password (e.g. comes on before Windows) then you need to open the computer case and remove/put back the CMOS battery or use the jumpers.

If it is Windows password, what is the username ? There are ways to reset windows passwords.

Need more info on Operating System, user info and type of PC

It is hard to get this information, especially from microsoft, and other sites, because computers have been known to get stolen.. Im sure eventually you will find the way to use the computer, but I really do not understand why you didnt write this information down, as most people do!!!????
EDIT.
I really do not think people should be giving You this information...
When you make a password you are also asked to name something, like your grand fathers name, so in case You lose your password, Your home page will email it to You using a few simple steps.

Turn off your computer and turn it back on. When its booting up, depending on the model of the computer, you will have to hit one of the 'f#' keys to bring up bios. Just try hitting all of them one at a time and if one brings you to the bios screen, there should be an option for password resetings. Dont know where to go from there, but I think that would fix your problem. My boyfriend reset my password one day to "iloveyou" just to be cute. Then I made him tell me how he did it :)

when the welcome screen comes up hit ctrl+alt+del twice, then in the username field type "administrator". Assuming there is no password on the administrator account you can then go to users in the control panel and remove your password without needing to know it
