Cold fusion is nuclear fusion taking place in a safe room-temperature "shirt sleeve" environment, instead of in a thermonuclear weapon explosion with the associated heat, blast force, and radiation. A fusion reaction yields LOTS of energy, but so far we haven't solved the problem of getting the energy without the "mess." [EDIT] Therefore, it's not real yet, but that's the idea.
