well i was in labor for 6 1/2 hours w/my first, i was induced due to Group B strep, and my son wouldn't drop at 40 wks.
they PUSHED pain meds at me the whole time even though i told them i didn't want them. *some anesthesiologists are very insistent*
i finally gave into the anesthesiologist so he would shut up, but the epidural didn't work anyways...i gave birth vaginally after 30 mins of pushing. the medication made my son extremely groggy and he had a hard time breathing at first.
my second, i was in 13 1/2 hrs of labor induced at 38 wks due to gestational diabetes. this time i threatened the anesthesiologist's life if he bothered me...and he left me alone. lol, i delivered my daughter vaginally after 12 mins of pushing (she wanted out!). my daugther was much more alert than my son was...and she had no trouble at all after birth. the second experience was so much better!
i plan on going med free with this pregnancy too. im almost 23 pregnant too, next tuesday.

Have had 4 kids. Once passed away at 5 months and the other three are doing great. But on the topic of the first one I did not have a good experience 36 hours of labor and did it with no meds because I was scarred of the epidural needle lol. Second one I had and epidural and things went a lot better for me. The last two I had setions because of placental previa. I think a good way to look at it is if you decide to go natural give your self the option to change yor mind and use meds if you can't deal with it any more. I know there are a lot of people who have a lot of opnions on the whole natural or meds and vaginal or section. And thats just what they are hun opnions. You are the only one who can decide for you what is best for you... Talking to your doctor about pain med options and knowing the risks involved is a good idea. Given that I have given birth everyway possible I think that no matter what it hurts... I just want to know that having a baby is a beautiful thing no matter which way you chose to give birth and I am sure you will make a good decision. Hope that helps and God bless...

My daughter came in just under seven hours. Fast and furious delivery. I had an epidural and it still hurt some. I really never got the no drugs concept. Pain is bad right?
Plus I work in a very liberal setting loudest supporters of a drug free delivery are some of the biggest users of recreational drugs. Disconnect.
For my second I had a scheduled C-section due to medical complications (I had drugs for that too.)
Overall - both deliveries were exciting and at the end- BABY!!
The only advice I would give is don't waste too much time worrying about the delivery, once the process starts, it pretty much takes care of itself. Read books about newborn care. That is what you can control. Good Luck, do what works for you and enjoy it all.

1) If you want to make it clear, tell them straight and don't give them a false sense of hope by um-ing and ah-ing. Play the stuck record where you just repeat "i've made my decision, please respect it" therefore you don't buy into an argument where things could escalate. Be clear, concise, and firm. 2) Yes, I personally think you are being selfish, you never know when you may need the help from your mother or MIL, and if they really want to be apart of the experience then perhaps you could compromise at least. If you decide to have them in the delivery room, you could specify that you don't want them to look "down there" and they could be at your side instead if what you are really worried about is having your parts on display. At the very least they could be allowed to visit once the baby is born - you might need the support of a reassuring face. This is a very exciting time for them too, you are the most important person however don't neglect or leave out very important support networks. 3) No, because there was a mutual want from myself my mother and my MIL to be involved. Birth to me is something that should be celebrated amongst family. Im not talking about 50 people in the delivery room. Goodluck and all the best =)

My water broke at 3:30 a.m. on 7/23. I labored w/o any pain meds (I used Lamaze and Bradley) whilst having my labor augmented w/ pitocin until 10:30 p.m. on 7/24.
I then pushed for 2 1/2 hours and could not deliver her vaginally. They gave me a spinal and at 1:43 a.m. on 7/24 she was born via c-section.
There's a lot more to that story of course, but I think those were the details you were looking for! Good luck to you!
I would highly recommend "The Thinking Woman's Guide To A Better Birth" by Henci Goer. Very eye opening and will help you make decisions as to how you want to birth your baby. Best wishes.

I went in to be induced at 39 weeks(a little ealry cause I had been having painful contractions for a week, but no dialation).
They started inducing at 6AM I started having contractions very quickly, but they got REALLY painful around noon. I got an epdidural whick made everything better. However my cervix would not dialted so they did a C-section at 5pm. I am glad I had one I did not want to go through labor at all. After being on preterm labor for week I was ready to get it over.
I had my baby 2 weeks ago and I am feeling much better.
I am also a first time mom

My first labor was LONNNGGGGGGGGG.... it was 22 hours and I ended up with a C-section because I just stopped dialating. I stayed at 4cm. My second labor?... LOL... what labor?.. I never went into labor. I was almost 42 weeks and the baby still didnt want to come out, I ended up with a scheduled C-section. Both came out fine and healthy. Both are girls. I wouldnt change it for nothing. I recovered pretty quick and was just fine. No infections, no nothing, thank God. I'm planning on doing it one more time, in about 5 years, gonna try for a boy this time. Good luck with everything.

I had a vaginal delivery. Labor was 17 hours and 31 minutes. Only about 30 minutes, was actual pushing. The first 9 hours, I was still at home.

i delivered my 9 lb daughter 2 weeks early and i had a very hard vaginal delivery. my labor lasted about 19 hours and i pushed for 3 hours. just be prepared i was not worried too much about labor and mine was horrible!i had an epidural but it was not administered correctly and it left my right arm numb and me feeling all of the other pains of labor and delivery. but just go with your gut when you are in labor as far as an epidural goes. good luck wish you and your little man an easy delivery :) !!!!!!
edit: i was also very active throughout my entire pregnancy and it did not help me at all!!!! i played tennis, worked, and walked all the time. the doc told me he thinks i had so much trouble because i had a big baby and i am tiny. the truth is it is very different for everyone.

I went into labour at exactly 40 weeks 8 hours before I was set to be induced haha I had my first contraction at midnight and they were 5 minutes apart from the very first one, after an hour of that I went to the hospital.
I was there for about 2 hours when the anaesthesiologist who's name was Buzz lmao came and gave me my epidural, I was in a fair amount of pain but it was nothing like I expected, the reason I got the epidural was because I knew when she was coming out it would be really painful! my water broke at 4 am and I was ready to push by 5 am but they told me to wait for my doctor who was in at 8 am. it was my first baby so I did what they said BAD IDEA by the time they let me deliver her she had muconium in her lungs, I didn't even get to hold her before they took her away :( she was in the nicu for 3 days and then we went home she didn't have any further problems
Anyways it took me 8 hours and 42 minutes to have my first child, although it would have been alot less time if I had pushed when I was ready!
