Can I get a HELL NO! Here is my proof!

Dirk stats in 2007: Position played: POWER FORWARD!
24. 6 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 0.8 bpg, 3.4 apg, 50.2 fg%

He didn't do his job as a POWER FORWARD! A MVP power forward should at least get 10+ rpg & 2+ bpg. There are small forwards that average a double double in points & rebounds (Shawn Marion).
Dirk is known as a scorer but failed to make the NBA's top 5 scorers list. He also failed to make the top 5 list in any NBA catagory with stats(bpg, rpg, apg, spg, ppg, & etc.)
Dirk also didn't make a difference on DEFENSE! Did anyone see his name on the ALL-DEFENSIVE TEAM? NO!

So as a power forward he didn't average a double double (with points & rebounds), wasn't on the top 5 list in any overall stats, had a very LOW block %, had a low assist %, and didn't make the ALL-DEFENSIVE TEAM! I don't know about you guys, but I consider that a WEAK season for a MVP!

Where in my debate am I mentioning the play-offs? You guys that keep saying that it's a season award and not a play-off award in Dirk's defence know's that I'm RIGHT! I don't even mention how horrible he was in the PLAY-OFFS! All of those stats I mentioned are from the season you morons (Tweety)! Why come with a defence that doesn't make any sense? That's all you guys can come up with?

He deserves it, best player on the best team in the regular season.

Hell yes he deserved, stats don't tell the story, if 24 and some change per game is not a good season scoring, you need to play in a better league. I was the conference MVP and i was a starter on my cities all-star team, and i averaged only 15.7 points per game and 14.2 boards per game and 1.3 blocks per game. I'm a PF too, the thing is that my team went 15-0, i wasnt and incredible scorer or an incredible rebounder or an incredible defender, what i could do was make my team better. The thing that he did do was make ever single person on that floor on his team better. Not just the team as a whole. Same as Steve Nash in the last 2 years. 8.9 rebounds a game is bad?!?! I'm sorry but it might not be top 5 in the NBA, but that is still not a bad season for rebounds per game! Dirk might not be the best player in the whole league, but he was certainly the Most Valuable, that's what you forget, the MVP is NOT the best player, he's the Most Valuable

All your points are valid but they are all statistics. Watching the game, you would see how he changes opponent's entire defensive schemes. He is a matchup nightmare for opposing teams (outside of Golden State). Starting from his post up from the top of the key, he starts a chain effect that opens up space for Dallas's shooters. Even the Spurs changed from their patented twin tower defense because of him.

Scoring wise Dirk was in the top 5 before, but now he developed a new balance when to pass it out. Personally I think he should take more shots. He is so conscious of playing "the right way" that it's both a strength and a weakness.

He doesn't have 10+ rebounds because Dampier and Howard are also good rebounders. Put him in the Timberwolves and he would've averaged more. Also, since he's playing on the perimeter he doesn't get many offensive rebounds.

Defensively he's not among the top defenders but he is an underrated help defender. True, he will never make any All-Defensive team.

That said, I think the best player in the league is LeBron James, but Dirk is a valid choice for MVP of the SEASON (never mind he sucked in the playoffs).

You can't judge everything based on statistics. That's why MVP are voted by sportswriter who supposedly have better knowledge of the game than us, instead of using Hollinger's PER or IBM statistics.

Lets see here nope If Kobe Bryant didn't deserve it all of those years where he should have gotten it , then dirk didnt deserve it this year i mean cmon. He hasn't set any record like the guy said he was not in any top 5 he didnt make it all defensive, Kobe and Nash got robbed. Kobe 1st team all NBA, 1st team all defensive, set many records, broke laker records, has to play with garbage teamates that were injured most of the season, but he still took them to the Playoffs in the western conference. If he was in the East he would have already been an MVP 6 TIMES.

I didn't like Dirk winning it either..

Nash had better numbers this year than his last two and the reason he won last year was exactly the same....he had an even better year than the first...Nash's numbers are impressive and he makes his team better and everyone does better. I don't get how a guy who won MVP last year can't win it again when his already wicked numbers got even better?!

Kobe is skilled (and annoying) but he doesn't make his team better or anyone on it for that matter.

Thing is the Mavs were awsome this year and I think it was hard to ignore so I guess politics won and sadly the wrong guy got awarded the MVP... but man the mavs were good up till the playoffs.

HEll NO!!!!

You are the first person I have seen answer this question properly I need my MVP to be in the top 3 in some category. He helped a team win 60 something games and they could have won 54 without him on the court. That doesn't sound like his play was all that valuable to his team. They would hav easily made the playoffs without him.

That being said I probably would have given that distinction to Kobe or Lebron, Even though I hate Kobe. The lakers can't win 20 games without Kobe on the floor and Lebron's team might be drafting Greg Oden if he weren't playing. I would have rather steve nash get another one instead of Dirk. he did nothing spectacular to deserve.

Kobe deserved the props, but look where the Lakers were in the standings compared with the Mavs. Not defending it, just bringing the reality.....Dirk was the MVP on a team with an outstanding regular season record, so he gets the trophy.

No they should not. The MVP is the player that makes the biggest impact on the best team. Steve Nash should not have gotten it last year. It should have went to Lebron. This is a regular season award not a postseason award so you can't really ask that question now.

HELL NO! He even felt bad when they announced it. He knows he didn't do his job when it counted the most. How do you win the most games and don't even get past the first round against a #8 team. Dirk didn't perform to MVP status when the team needed him most. Steve Nash is what MVP is all about. He's in the game mentally and physically all the time even when he's bleeding to death.

There is no doubt Dirk was the best player on the team with the best record. That said, how can you give it to him over Nash or Duncan, or Lebron? i don't think he desereved it anymore than any of those guys. Hell if anything this was the 2nd year Nash totally deserved to win it.

Oh yeah and I forgot Mr Bryant. He had an amazing season. Hard to want to crown him MVP though.

He only won because the NBA frowns on their being a 3 time consecutive MVP. This season Steve Nash had better statistics than his past 2 MVP seasons.
