Twice now that I have had my mower in the back of my pu, someone has stolen my full gas can. This morning it was in my driveway! Anyone with a loaded mower probably has a full gas can, too. They're smart.

Fill your gas can with Kerosene, it will smell like gas (Sort of), and if no one steals it, you can still use it for other purposes, like a kerosene heater.
A gas engine will run on kerosene, if you can get it started, but it will run really bad.
Also knowing lawyers, if you ruin the thief's engine with contaminated gasoline, they will sue you. But if they stole kerosene and were stupid enough to put it in a gas engine, that is their fault.
Don't ya love lawyers?

No. The sugar thing is an urban legend. I actually found out about this, because there is a really cool show on cable that tests various things and they found out sugar doesn't really hurt your engine that much. I think bleach was the bad thing to put in gas, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I don't know the name of that source, but I found another reference you can look at. Also, well, it's just bad karma to set a trap like that for someone. What if it they used the gas in their mom's car or something? Set up a video camera instead so you can actually see what's going on.

If you can find it, fill the can up most of the way with nitro from a race track --whoever uses it will fry their motor or at least burn some valves. I just tap off the test port on my truck's fuel line and run a 6 foot length of hose to fill my mower or 4 wheeler...you can get fuel line tap connectors at a parts store.

Put a lockable gas cap on your car and your gas can in a below ground cavity with concealed trap door. Real simple and easy to do.

The socio-economics of an area often visibly indicated by what can be 'left-out(side)' with out worry---if you live in an 'innercity', or lower S-E-enviorment, take things in,shackle/lock-up---and not leave thing outside as they will serve as 'easy-picking' for those opportunistic 'honest?' neighborhood members----surprisingly,it would seem, that also the mower itself did not "grow legs, and 'walk away'on its own steam"

Sure will. Just don't forget not to use this gas in your engine - that would be ironic, wouldn't it?
