wrymind, according to the latest information from the NCHC ( National Coalition on Health Care) 16% of people living in America are without health coverage, with 20% of those not being Citizens. Get your facts straight if you want to make statements like that.

I think health care should be 2-tiered. We should have general health care as it is now, but life threatening illness/emergencies should be socialized. I know the prospect of that sounds messy but we shouldn't be afraid of the health care system and what insurance may and may not pay for. Elderly care should be totally socialized.

OOOOOOOhhh the socialist boogie man that you are afraid of now. Let's see, let's look at the argument shall we? Health care is an issue that involves life and death issues, right? Well, having police departments and fire departments are a matter of life and death too right? They are a matter of safety and health in the public realm, right? Without them, our communities are pretty much screwed, right? Well, let's look at health care. Without our health as individuals, we are screwed, right? Without a community's health it is screwed because disease can spread and do so very fast as we have seen in the past with TB, Influenza and other diseases. If people cannot afford health care or their insurance won't pay for it, then it is a community health problem. Since our government pays for police protection and fire protection for the greater good and greater community and personal health through our taxes, why shouldn't our taxes pay for the greater good of having a healthy society and healthy individuals which is equally reliant on life and death issues? This isn't about socialism or communism. England, Canada, all of Europe and other developed countries have universal health care and it works very well. I've been to these countries and I've seen it first hand. Our insurance companies are in it for profit and making sure their shareholders profit. They are not in it for the health of their client. As a matter of fact many of them deny proceedures because the decisions are made by administrators, accountants and bureaucrats instead of the patient's doctors. This is a nightmare of a system. I welcome Universal healthcare. It can work and we should have it. If you still want private health insurance then you should be able to have it, that would be your choice. But those things that involve life and death should not be in the hands of accountants.

I'm sure he would and I'd love to send him there! I guess he really thinks that Castro showed him the health facilities that everybody in Cuba gets, not just those Castro selected to show him. I know I thought that the USSR's health care and military were top notch until the USSR fell and we saw the truth. Heck, I've even been in St. Mary's in London and saw how the poor are treated. They're in the basement, in one small room with 4 guys and a hot plate. I think there's a better way to stop the medical industry and insurance companies to stop gouging us.

Would you rather live in a fascist society where the majority of people are either unemployed or disabled or too poorly paid to afford medical care or insurance, so they don't get any and just quietly die at home?
Of course I'm sure YOU would end up in the privileged minority.

Why does decent health care have to be socialist or communist. I think this is a very narrow view.

I would not rather live in a socialist or communist society to get free healthcare. I like to pick my own profession and job rather than being forced into a job that was selected for me, and I like to earn my own way and choose my own healthcare options rather than having only one option forced on me.

You ALREADY live with socialism.

The American people deserve a government that actually cares. Health insurance should not be a "gift" it should be a "right".

No and Mr. Moore should move to Canada. A large socialist country with plenty of room and socialized medicine.
