For one i had my glucose screen friday morning and haven't heard back on it,they supposed to call you pass or fail. The other thing is i had an emergency csection w/ my first preg due to inflamed appendix and severe infection and have asked my dr. on the past 2 visits whether he thhinks i'll have to have another csection. Each time he says he hasnt had time to look over my hospital dr. report...2months and not had a chance? As a matter of fact each time i see him he asks me the reason i had a csection before, like he forgot! It is important to me to know what to expect and he just doesn't seem concerned with it at all.I'm 26 weeks along and don't want to have to switch drs but i do want someone who at least pretends to care what happens and pays attention to my concerns. Do you think im over reacting and is his procrastination normal or should i find anither dr? Also, should they have called by now on glucose results?

1st call yourself - maybe lines were crossed and they thought you would call - better safe than sorry.

2nd - trust your instincts. if you are unhappy with the doc - then call around and see if other docs can fit you in. you should be able to ask the doc ANY question and him be able to give you an answer. i would look elsewhere.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Was it your one hour glucose test where you drink that nasty drink and then they take your blood an hour later? If so, that can take up to a week to get the blood test back. If it was a finger prick to just test your level than that should have had a result immediately. It took my obgyn a week to get the results. And, he never calls with any results so I had to call. That's just how he runs his practice. For me, it's no big deal. I know if there is something he's concerned about he'll call.

I'd tease him about never remembering about your last delivery. My obgyn is the same way always asking where I delivered and if I had to even have a csect (I didn't). He has a busy practice and can't possibly remember every single mother's delivery he's ever delivered! That's impossible.

As far as looking over your charts I'd ask him to do that while your there. Don't let it slide just go over the main points of your last delivery. Tell him your anxious and worried the same things will happen again and tell him CLEARLY what you expect/want to happen this delivery. Ask him if it's possible.

A doctor/patient relationship is the same as any relationship. You have to have open communication. You need to tell him what you expect and where he's failing in your eyes. Be candid, have a sense of humour...take it in stride. Your only half way through your pregnancy - he probably feels like he is able to take some time in looking over everything. He's human too...

Isn't that awful?? No, it's not normal or okay to have to put up with that crap from a doctor. If you have another doctor in your area that you think would work, I highly recommend switching. Yes, they should have called about your glucose by now. Arrgh. I think doctors should be held to some level of professional responsiblity, but unfortunately, they aren't. Consider this practice for when your baby is born, you'll need to check and double check everything the pediatrician says, because they, too, are often 'distracted'... do you have any friends that have had babies recently? They might be able to recommend an ob that is more attentive... good luck~

I would consider a new doctor. I had problems with my first pregnancy and my obgyn remembers everything and is keeping an eye out for the same thing to happen again. I think he should have remembered something that serious.

As far as another c-section, it depends on the doctor and hospital. Some will not try a natural birth if you had a c-section so there is not a chance of ripping wear the old incision is. That is what my doctor told me when I asked her about it. I have to have another c-section.

A good rule of thumb is 1 week for results unless there is a pressing issue. But also remember his staff is the one to call about results, perhaps they are slacking.

As far as your DR not reviewing your history... Id be questioning him to.

Call and speak with the office manager and ask her to relay the message to the doctor also. Tell her your concerns and that at your next appointment you expect your history to have been reviewed by your doctor so you can discuss your concerns. And tell them youd' rather not change doctors but to get proper attention and care you will.

Dont be afraid to say what you need!!! This is time that you need to be comfortable and feel that you are in good hands. Get firm with them, if they resist find a new doctor.

Best of luck hun!!

My OB was very very busy and forgetful sometimes too. (He forgot by 7 months that at 5 month sI was in the hospital). I think it is so important to feel comfortable with who you are working with. At 26 weeks, you have to decide would you feel like you are in better care going to a different doc or would you rather tough it out with the one you have since he knows (or rather doesn't know) your history. You have 14 weeks to go. I would see if someone else in his practice or office can take you on. Then he can pass the chart over and give the update and you can get in quicker. Good luck. I feel ya. This is a tough call.

If you are not comfartable switch doc immediatly. Had similar experience and was soooooooo glad I did. Especially because of c-section issue. I wanted to know is VBAC an option, where will you make my new abdomial incision be, ex. I think a indifferent Doc. is a step towards making the experience a bad one. You could try to tell him how you feel about his bed side manor. That didn't seem to help out for me but who knows it might snap your Doc out of it. You are a human being and should not be treated like just another person. No I don't think you are over reacting at all.

Okay you do what you think is best, but I personally would find another doctor, when I was pregnate (all 3 times) when I had my glucose test done I found out the results that day before I left the office. He has had ample time to review all of your charts and yes I know doctors see lots of people everyday and I'm sure it is hard to keep up, but he should be reviewing your chart each time before he comes in the room to see you. It sounds to me like he doesn't care enough about his patients.

FIND A DIFFERENT DOCTOR RIGHT NOW! This guy is a real idiot...and that is not what you need. Also, it's good if she/he has a Nurse Practitioner as part of the office staff; someone specially trained in OBGYN. That way... you'll be able to talk to someone besides the Doctor when you have questions. Healthy babies are our most important product... and that takes healthy Moms... Bless you and keep you! Hugs, Gina C.

Switch! As soon as possible. At my clinic, which is typically in the top 10 national rankings, its typical to see different docs (maybe 3) during prenatal care, even nurse practioners. And at the hospital, basically whoevers there delivers you.

Although youre not high risk, but with the past history, you should be getting greater attention (greater attention anyway) .

Docs can be bad. As in any profession. Sounds like your instinct is already telling you what to do, and your experiences validate this.

Even thought you don't wan to change doctors if I were you I would. You want a doctor that is really concerned about his patients. Do whats best for you and your unborn child! And the your glucose results it depends on if the lab is running behind but if they are not then yes
