Ok, I know I am a little behind, but I am currently watching Season 1. I am fascinated with Locke, but can't figure out if he is a good guy. He seems like it them he'll have some weird supernatural moment. Since most Lost fans have now seen through Season 3, go ahead and ruin it for me. What's his deal (don't have to give storyline detail, just bottom line.)? Anybody else that may have more than meets the eye (I know, all of them, but anyone especially shocking)? Thanks!!!

AHHH...As I'm waiting for answers, he just hit Boone over the head, has him tied up, and left him out in the woods. This is making me crazy!!!!

locke has issues. SPOILER!! locke used to be paralyzed due to the fact that his biological dad threw him out of a window. when they crashed on the island he was no longer paralyzed. he is afraid that if they get off of the island he will no longer be healed and will pretty much do anything to stay on the island. i don't believe it is going to work but we'll see how far he'll go to have it his way.
i belive deep down he is a good guy but everybody at some time in their life serves their own needs above others and this is his time to have something that he lost.

In the "Lost" universe, there really are no good guys or bad guys among the major characters, just warring camps of people with different aims, divided along the broad dichotomy of a contest between Reason and Faith. The show has gradually managed to reveal character flaws in every one of its leads. Ultimately, if the producers ever decide to reveal what's actually going on on this island, we may eventually be able to decide who was right and who was in the wrong.

John Locke (apparently named for the 17th century Empircist philosopher) ironically represents the type of the True Believer (as opposed to Jack's reliance on Reason and the facts) and was one of the first people among the survivors of the crash who got a glimpse of the "true" nature of island. He seems to have known almost from the beginning that the island is alive in some way and can sense what one needs, including (apparently) physical healing. He attributes the miraculous cure of his paralysis to the island and desperately wishes to remain there. Therefore, he's fought efforts on the part of Jack and other survivors to get themselves rescued.

This has led to some pretty bizarre plot twists in the third season, which ended with a "flash-forward" that seemed to indicate that Jack's reliance on Reason and Chance was a bad choice, which would mean that Locke's reliance on Faith and Destiny was the correct response. But, it ain't over yet. Disney has ordered up three more years (48 episodes) of the show. So, we shall see . . .

bottom line is the Locke has a spiritual and rare connection to the island unlike anyone else, even Ben (you'll get to him)

personally, I think Locke is a good guy, but he subscribes to the "ends justifies the means" theory...he'll go through some transformation as you watch the seasons

on of the great things the show does is constantly flip your perception of how is "good" and who is "bad" thereby questioning the very nature of such labels

enjoy!!

Don't expect a good answer, we're still not sure what Locke's part is in this whole thing.

He definitely has some importance or strong connection to the island. But exactly how he fits into all of it, is still unclear.
