how can i track down a relative living in Belguim?

Question

He was previously living in Desslgem but was very poorly last I heard. I have his earlier address and phone number but there is no response frrom either he or his wife

I have already tried surfing the net for details of the local council with no success unless I am looking under the wrong heading. The phone number gives number unobtainable tone.

Presumably you have a computer?Find the phone number for the town hall on google,give them a call and ask them if they can help.Belgians are usually helpful in family matters(you can lay it on a bit thick).In the uk you are more likely to get some robot quoting the Data protection act.Just a thought,is Belgium that far away?The website is www.waregem.be and the mayor is a Mr Kurt vanRyckeghem

Phone the municipal council offices in Desslgem and explain the situation, they may be able to help you. It may be that your relatives have moved or passed away and their details are not yet updated on the public information systems.

Be aware that you might have to be patient when dealing with people who normally don't speak your language.
