What i mean by that is why dont each individual citizen of the US have the right to vote on whether the nation should go to war or not? Not leaving it to only a few member of the congress decide on what our nation is heading toward. I believe that each individual should have the right to vote on these matter.

As an american citizen, I have no right to vote at all for these matter. Leaving it to only few hundred people in the congress deciding for a few hundred million of US citizen.

To be honest, i have no idea why our nation went to war in Iraq? Our troop is dying, our national fund is as low as it can be. But for what? Peace keeping? All i see is war. There is no peace.

We have a Congress to make our government run more efficiently. Have you voted for your Congressman and Senators in every election for which you have been eligible to vote? Have you checked the votes of your Congressman and Senators lately? Have you written them emails or sent them letters telling them your position?

You say: "To be honest, i have no idea why our nation went to war in Iraq? Our troop is dying, our national fund is as low as it can be. But for what? Peace keeping? All i see is war. There is no peace."

There are millions of pages on the Internet along that speak to all the issues weighing on the United States government and the world. You have no excuse to say you have no idea when you obviously have access to a computer to type this question.

Do some research. Come back a more knowledgeable participant.

Why are you asking for someone to explain to you, why you can't vote about something that you haven't taken the time to understand?

This is why we have a replublic rather than complete democracy. There are too many of you that have no real understanding of what happened leading up to the war, yet you are against it.

Don't get me wrong, nobody loves war...but sometimes diplomacy doesn't work to resolve conflicts between nations....especially when one of the nations stance is "we will not follow the rules of the UN, no matter what". There is little room for diplomacy when sanctions have no effect.

Why should citizens be allowed to vote on an issue that they didn't study or understand? At that point their opinon may as well be a toss of a lawn dart by a blind man. Your vote should be cast based on a solid understanding of the candidates you vote for, or the issues you are voting on.

I apologize if you are opposed to the war for a legitimate reason.... but you are the one who said "I have no idea why our nation went to war in Iraq". I wouldn't have had the same tone if you said " In understand why we went to war, but I disagree"....well, that would mean something.

True enough only Congress can declare war. The last time they did it was for WWII. We only have had conflicts since then. Little ones like Korea, Viet Nam and Iraq. The president gets to decide those. He needs support from Congress but not a formal declaration of war. We are a republic not a democracy. There is a difference.

We did vote. Some of us. The voters put those congressmen and women if office to represent us. If they do not vote the way we wish them to then change representatives next election. This is our system, but it only works if we the people exercise our right to vote in the people we want. Far to many Americans don't vote. We are good at criticizing though. Next election let us all get there and vote. Let's end the war and brings our troops home.

You would have mayhem. Don't you realize how violent this world is. In an emergency, we could loose our freedoms by the time it took to get a vote out. What our president did was correct and will stand the test of time. You people should educate your your selves, listen to debates, good news channels like fox news and get your information first hand rather than listen to some uninformed goofball who doesn't know what they are talking about. Always be skeptical when you read something. Research it and remember, you are getting the reporters emotions and slant
(if they are sympathetic) to what they are reporting and stop looking and listening the simple, idiotic things on TV. You speak of our boys dying in Iraq. First of all it is difficult to see and hear about this but but all wars are ugly. Our boys over there volunteered to go there, I talked to some of them and the news media is purposly trying to undermine our troops they say they think we should be there and they are proud of what they are doing for a depressed populace. Now that you mention about the boys getting killed over there did you every consider the slaughter on our highways for no noble cause whatsoever. Every year between 36000 to 46000 are killed on our highways and you don't seem to think of this. It makes one wonder what planet you are comming from. Lastly, we are lin a war whether you want to believe it or not we either fight them over there or here in our streets. Wake up!! before it is too late.

Our government works like this:
We elect people to represent us, and then they make these important decisions for us. Hopefully in a way that truly represents their constituents. If we had to vote on everything our government does, everything would come to a standstill. Plus most citizens are not educated enough to fully grasp the complexity of most world, and even national affairs.

Our elected representatives are suppose to represent the will of the people. However, they are too busy KEEPING their job, they don't have time to DO the job We The People want them to do.

America has the best politicians(poly from the Greek, meaning many; and tic: an ugly bloodsucking parasite) money can buy. We need term limits so they can concentrate on We The People instead of lobbists.

The larger question is why we don't vote on everything...which would be a true democracy. The reason is that it is too unwieldy to collect vote information from so many people...but more importantly, our representatives have the time to research the issues and make more informed decisions than us.

First, all the people don't (and shouldn't) have access to the classified information that Congress has access to, so the vote by all the people would not be an educated vote.

Second, we elect our representatives to REPRESENT us. They are our vote. That's just how it works.
